Today we’d like to introduce you to Trent Denson.
Hi Trent, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
It all started with a missed phone call.
A friend of mine, Adam, left me a voicemail when he was going through a tough season. At the end of it, he said, “I hope you’re spreading the positive.” I think he was quoting a Kid Cudi lyric, but for whatever reason, those words stuck with me.
I couldn’t shake the idea. I wanted to build something that didn’t just talk about positivity, but actually went out and created it. I thought maybe it would take off overnight, but it didn’t. The idea just kept sitting there, and the desire to build something meaningful never went away.
So I started.
I formed the LLC, hosted community events, sold T-shirts, and spent every spare minute learning. Around that same time, I became obsessed with podcasts. I was listening to shows like *The Tim Ferriss Show* and *Short Story Long*, and I fell in love with the format. It felt like one of the few places where people could have real conversations instead of quick sound bites.
Back in 2017, podcasting wasn’t nearly as accessible as it is today. There wasn’t a clear roadmap, so I had to figure it out as I went. I remember hearing Tim Ferriss talk about how he made his show for himself first. He wasn’t chasing trends, he was having conversations with people he genuinely wanted to learn from. That idea really stuck with me.
I’ve always been drawn to stories about people doing good work, building great businesses, serving their communities, and making a difference. Every conversation filled my cup, and it still does today.
As more people started asking for help launching their own podcasts, Spread The Positive naturally evolved into a full-service podcast studio. What started as a passion project became a business built around helping other people tell their stories.
Today, we’ve helped launch more than 80 podcasts, produced over 3,000 episodes, and partnered with businesses, nonprofits, creators, and organizations across Tennessee and beyond. At its core, though, the mission hasn’t changed. We’re still doing what that voicemail inspired years ago. Finding great stories and spreading the positive.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road.
I didn’t know what I didn’t know, and I had to learn almost everything as I went. There were plenty of times we were just trying to keep the lights on, saying yes to opportunities, figuring things out in real time, and, honestly, building the plane while we were flying it.
The biggest challenge was getting people to see the vision. Spread The Positive has always been about **bringing light to what is going right**, and that’s a different message than what people are used to hearing every day. Thankfully, more and more people have connected with that mission over the years, and that’s what’s allowed us to keep growing.
We’ve been impressed with Spread The Positive, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
We’re much more than a podcast production company.
The biggest thing that sets us apart is the network we’ve built. Anyone can launch a podcast today, but creating a show is only part of the equation. The bigger challenge is getting it in front of the right people and turning it into something that creates real value.
That’s where Spread The Positive is different.
We don’t just produce podcasts, we bring them into a growing network of shows that are all connected under one mission: bringing light to what is going right. That network creates opportunities for cross-promotion, audience growth, and sponsorships that individual shows wouldn’t have access to on their own.
We’ve built a model that’s a lot closer to a modern media network than a traditional production company. We help our hosts create great content, distribute it through our ecosystem, connect them with sponsors and advertisers, and ultimately help their stories reach more people.
That’s what I’m most proud of. We’re not just helping people start podcasts. We’re building a platform where great stories can travel farther and have a bigger impact than they could on their own.
What do you like and dislike about the city?
What I love most is the people. Middle Tennessee is full of people who genuinely care about their neighbors, their businesses, and their communities. Every week we get to sit down with someone who’s building something meaningful, serving others, or making a real impact, and it’s a constant reminder of how much good is happening here.
