Meet Trish & John Nelson of Pleasant View

Today we’d like to introduce you to Trish & John Nelson. Them and their team share their story with us below:

Flytes Brewhouse is proudly owned and managed by John and Patricia (Trish) Nelson. John is a veteran of the United States Marine Corps and is a former police officer. He’s also owned his aircraft fabrication business for 21 years — hence “Flytes!”

John began brewing beer in 1995 while in the Marines and stationed in San Diego. Trish worked in banking for 31 years, retiring at the senior vice president level, then consulting for the last seven years. Early in 2018, we made one very big decision, we moved from the West Coast with one goal top of mind: Opening this brewery.

The 2019 opening of Flytes Brewhouse was the beginning of a dream that spanned two decades. Leaving the West Coast in the rearview mirror and setting our sights on small-town life and brewery ownership, we have enjoyed much success since the brewhouse opened its doors two years ago.

After only being in business for two years we expanded our production and we signed a deal with a major Country band for a collaboration beer, Country Buzz with The Cadillac Three.

None of this wouldn’t have been possible without the support of the community, our employees, family, and friends. We feel truly blessed that we were able to collaborate with The Cadillac Three and have our beer at the Ryman Auditorium during their 10-year anniversary shows.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
For the most part, it has been smooth, especially with the Pandemic happening only a year after being open. There are always struggles as a small business owner, that never ceases and just becomes part of everyday life.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
We have a line of pepper beers that sets us apart from most breweries. Our attention to detail and knowing our customers and providing them with the best product and customer service is very important to us and our sucess.
