Meet Tyler Deaver

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tyler Deaver.

Tyler, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I grew up in a small farming community in southwestern Wisconsin. I had a deep love for the outdoors and rural town values. But I also had dreams to go after and for me, that dream was being a country singer. I had to make a choice whether to stay in Wisconsin and try to save/buy my family century farm or move to Nashville and chase my other dreams. I decided to move and the family farm as the story goes got sold for the $.

For the past five years, I’ve been trudging my way through the music industry trying to figure out how it works and where I want to put my stamp on country music. I’ve gone from working retail jobs, driving Uber, and doing home improvement work to now playing music full time both in Nashville and across the country.

I want to create quality country music that can make people feel something and hopefully help people through hard times or help them to kick back and relax.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
It has been a rough road at times no doubt. I constantly think about losing my family farm… having that farm was my other huge dream. I wanted that farm to stay in the family and maybe someday I would’ve lived there with my wife and son. I try to put it behind me but it’s tough to do. Nashville has its own set of difficulties too. Talent is not always the ticket to success.

Just because you’re better than someone doesn’t mean you get their spot. I feel the music industry is unique in this way because in many things like sports… if you’re the best you typically play in the game. Country music is not run that way these days. All that means is that it takes more time to make good relationships and carve your own spot whether that be on Broadway or in a bar anywhere in the country. One of the toughest hurdles is the cost of recording music these days as an independent artist.

One song can cost you $2000 dollars to record depending on what studio you go with. You also need money to promote your music and many companies will lie to you on how they will promote your music. If you’re not careful you will run out of money really fast!!

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I write, sing, and record country music that still has quality lyric content with catchy melodies…or at least that’s what I try to do haha! It seems in my opinion a lot of country music today has a lack of good lyrics. I love country music with a story or a song that makes me stop and turn up the radio dial. I don’t get to do that much anymore and I miss that.

My goal has been to write tunes that make people think, relax, and listen to a true-life relatable story. I’m proud that I will never change that goal and it puts me at a great disadvantage. However, I’ll be more proud of what I create because I believe 100% in what I’m creating. I feel that sets me apart from the flock of Nashville Country.

We’d love to hear about any fond memories you have from when you were growing up?
Many of my favorite childhood memories are tied to the outdoors. I spend all my spare time in the woods or a stream hunting and fishing. I learned how to be a man, and fend for myself in doing so. Without that time in nature, I don’t know where I’d be today.

My parents encouraged this recreational time and I believe it kept me out of trouble with alcohol and other typical trouble that young kids get into. I wouldn’t trade my young memories in the woods for anything.
