Meet Veronica Stanton

Today we’d like to introduce you to Veronica Stanton.

Hi Veronica, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I moved to Nashville in 2016 to “work on music,” although I wasn’t really sure what that meant. Prior to living here, I had only ever played my songs for friends and family while we sat in the living room or around the campfire. At first, I really didn’t see myself pursuing a career in music and writing was merely a creative outlet and a way to sort through my feelings. However, I eventually realized I wanted to share my songs and maybe write for other people, which was what led me to Nashville! After two years of playing writers’ rounds and open mics around town, I recorded my first EP, 827 Miles. Making that record and performing my songs live with a band was such a fulfilling experience and I knew I was doing what I loved. This past fall I recorded my first full-length record at Elevated Studio with Wilson Harwood. It was such an incredible experience and I learned so much along the way. I am really excited to release the songs later this year!

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I wouldn’t say it’s been smooth, but I wouldn’t have it any other way! All of the ups and downs really just taught me things I needed to learn. Overall I’ve been fortunate to meet so many good people who have supported me and encouraged me along the way. Honestly, I’d say the biggest struggles have been from within. Learning to trust myself and believe in my own abilities has taken me some time, and I’m still working on it. I will say that finding a supportive community has been so incredibly helpful and it makes it all worthwhile!

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do? What are you most proud of?
I’m a singer-songwriter and I’d say I’m most proud of my upcoming record. Some of the songs I wrote 5 years ago, and some of them I wrote while in the studio. What many of them have in common is that I say things I would typically shy away from. While I’ve always written very personal songs, this album feels a little scary because of how vulnerable some of the material is. It’s not that I’m writing about anything taboo, but for me, it’s a little uncomfortable to admit some things out loud.

Do you have any advice for those looking to network or find a mentor?
I think that being open to advice from others is huge. Just like anything in life, we always have room for growth and improvement. I think that being too stuck in your own way of doing things can often get in the way. While it’s important to work hard and always do your best, I think it’s equally important to know your shortcomings and reach out for help when you need it. I have been fortunate to meet so many wonderful people who have really made the difference in my time here in Nashville. Sometimes it’s uncomfortable to reach out to people, but it’s always been worth it to me! Oftentimes, people are willing to help out, but even when they aren’t, it’s good practice to put yourself in the position of asking for help.

Oh, sweet Veronica Stanton! I just came across your music tonight and thank you for singing from your vulnerabilities and even being uncomfortable sharing it. It not only draws me in to hear your heart, but I also long to get to know you as a person. Are humanity and connecting is individuals is a beautiful thing that I believe reflects our Creator’s design. Having our youngest (now 25) being an extremely gifted pianist/keyboarder since a toddler playing by ear and transposing, I love seeing individuals pursue blessing others with their giftedness and 🙏🏼 continued blessings for you and your future! Just curious hun, when do you ever see yourself being ready for marriage?
