Today we’d like to introduce you to Victor Gonzalez.
Hi Victor, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Victor Gonzalez, a Chilean-born bassist and multi-style musician, brings over two decades of international performance and teaching experience to the Nashville music scene. After beginning his classical bass studies in Chile and performing with national youth orchestras, Victor honed his craft at Spain’s esteemed Queen Sofía Superior School of Music, touring with the Spanish National Youth Orchestra and performing with the Sony Chamber Orchestra.
Awarded a scholarship to Berklee College of Music in Boston, Victor graduated with honors in 2017, earning multiple academic distinctions in bass performance. Since relocating to Nashville, he has become an integral part of the Nashville Philharmonic Orchestra and a dedicated educator with Metro Nashville Public Schools.
Victor’s dynamic career includes collaborations with iconic artists such as Dream Theater, Evanescence, Jacob Collier, Terence Blanchard, Tigran Hamasyan, Nobuo Uematsu, among others, alongside studio recordings for major video game soundtracks including Super Smash Bros. and Destiny 2. He actively performs with ensembles like Bella & The MisAdventures, The Senie Hunt Trio, and TKO Jazz, continually shaping Nashville’s vibrant musical landscape.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
The road hasn’t always been smooth, but that’s part of what has shaped me as an Artist/Musician. Moving from Chile to Spain, and later to the US, meant adapting to new cultures, languages, and musical environments. Each transition brought challenges—whether it was earning trust in new communities, navigating different teaching and performance expectations, or simply finding my voice in competitive settings.
Financial uncertainty and balancing multiple roles—performer, teacher, composer—also tested my resilience. But those struggles taught me perseverance, flexibility, and the importance of staying true to my passion for music. Every challenge became an opportunity to grow, and today I embrace those experiences as essential to my journey.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
My journey has had its challenges, but I believe those moments have shaped me in important ways. Moving far from home and adapting to new musical and cultural environments wasn’t always easy. There were times I wondered if I was on the right path and struggled to balance performing, teaching, and personal life.
What has kept me going is my deep love for music and the bass. I’ve learned that being open and honest—both as a musician and a teacher—creates stronger connections. I’m proud of staying true to my passion through it all and being able to share not only my skills but also my experiences with my students. I think what sets me apart is this blend of perseverance, and commitment to growth.
Before we go, is there anything else you can share with us?
I’d love for readers to know that music, for me, is much more than a career—it’s a lifelong passion and a way to connect with people across cultures and generations. Whether I’m teaching, performing, or composing, my goal is always to inspire and be inspired. I believe that music has the power to heal, unite, and transform, and I’m grateful every day to be part of that journey. No matter where you are on your musical path, keep exploring, stay curious, and never stop creating.
