Today we’d like to introduce you to Victor Lancaster.
Hi Victor, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Well… I grew up in East Nashville before it was the cool place to be. Believe it or not, East Nashville was once an area that was a very rough place. Gunshots were my alarm clock some mornings, but I am grateful for that upbringing. I learned so much from the streets of East Nashville that helped prepare me for life.
In regards to my career, I got my start in the Automotive industry by chance. A dealership owner broke down in front of my house. I helped him get his vehicle back running and while I was helping him get his vehicle back on the road he asked me what I did for a living. I told him I was about to start college.
He asked where and I advised him that I was about to start at Western Kentucky. He introduced himself as Gary Force let me know that he owned Gary Force Toyota in that area and said if I wanted a job, it was mine. He stayed true to his word and I started working there as a car washer when I started college.
Working there helped me realize that I really had an interest in the business and this helped motivate me to get an internship at Nissan’s manufacturing plant in Smyrna, TN. This made my interest even stronger. From working hard there, I got a recommendation letter from a Sr. Manager that helped me land a position with Nissan after I graduated.
I started in our Customer Service Department as a customer service rep. From there, I held many positions throughout the organization and throughout the United States. After a few years of working in different areas of the company, I had an opportunity to come back home to Nashville to work for the team I started in as the Operations Manager.
Talk about a full circle!
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It absolutely has not been an easy road. I have had so many different twists on the road to get to where I am now and I am still driving. Even though it hasn’t been an easy road, I am enjoying the ride and learning so much!
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am an automotive professional, but my current title is Operations Manager for Nissan Consumer Affairs. To put it simply, my team strives to provide exceptional customer service to every customer that calls our group with an issue.
I am proud that throughout the short time that I have been in this position, I have been able to help promote some of Nissan’s next leaders throughout several areas of the company.
What sets me apart is my work ethic and my tenacity. I will NEVER give up on something if I am passionate about it.
Are there any books, apps, podcasts, or blogs that help you do your best?
How to win friends and influence people. Sounds cliche, but it really is a great book!
