Today we’d like to introduce you to Victoria Cielo.
Alright, thank you for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us how you got started?
I was born in Houston, Texas, but I moved to Atlanta when I was three. Ever since I was little, I have wanted to be a YouTuber. I always loved reality shows and how the people seemed so “real.” I wanted to be an influence while showcasing my most authentic self. Once COVID hit, I bought a ring light and went for it in the spring semester of my first year of college.
We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
As a content creator, the road for everyone is different. Some people come up faster than others. I can say in my personal experience, and it’s been an experience—one of learning more about myself as well as learning more about the people around me. I feel like the biggest struggle is watching the rise and fall of analytics in the early stages. Like maybe waking up to your first 100 subscribers and then an hour later you’re back at 95, or maybe your latest video you thought would blow up only for 3 views in a month. There are a lot of challenges, but those two are the ones that affect me the most mentally. It can get a little disheartening.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am a content creator, specifically a lifestyle, fashion, and beauty YouTuber. I always wanted to be a YouTuber, and I wanted to make an impact on as many people as possible. I am most known for my YouTube videos on Fisk University. I started making them because, upon researching Fisk (my current college), I saw a definite lack of representation for students there, and I knew people had a lot of unanswered questions about the school. I wanted people to be educated on their college decision. So depending on who you ask, I’m “known for” a couple of different things. Besides my roles on my university campus, I often get called “Victoria from YouTube” when I meet new people! I feel like the thing that sets me apart is my versatility in my videos and my realness. One day we might be washing my hair on my channel, and the next day we’re trying some new food. I also make sure to engage with the supporters heavily I do have. I love utilizing my channel to show people what MY life is like. I like giving a real perspective on things.
Besides my initial college videos, I do more lifestyle videos, stuff I know people can relate to or are interested in now. To this day, it’s still a little weird to know that people LIKE listening to me talk, but I love knowing people consider me a trustworthy voice they want to hear in their free time regardless of what I’m talking about. Being a content creator is not only limited to YouTube, though. Depending on the brand, I get partnerships for Instagram posts or TikTok posts. I don’t say any of this to brag. I feel like people don’t realize you don’t have to have a million followers to get paid and influence social media. I have under 5k on all my socials, so I am technically considered a “micro-influencer.” When I thought about being an influencer, it never occurred to me that I could have the opportunities I’ve been able to have with such a “small” following. I’m thankful to everyone who has supported me, though. I genuinely don’t feel like I could’ve stuck with it if I didn’t have my support system believing in me. Support your local content creators! Support them if you see a friend posting more than normal, trying to spice up their feed! It just takes a share, like, or comment to boost up their engagement just that little bit.
I say all this to say that I am grateful for the plethora of opportunities social media (specifically youtube) has opened up for me. I feel like the cool, helpful big sister people choose to listen to!
What matters most to you?
What matters most to me is being happy. Yeah, you can sit in front of a camera all day and make it seem happy it’s easy when you’re just talking to yourself or your “viewers,” but what happens when the camera isn’t rolling?
