Today we’d like to introduce you to Wesley Morrison.
Hi Wesley, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I have been a hairstylist for 35 years and have worked in a few different salon environments. I started T. Wesley Salon 10 years ago this coming April. I wanted to create a relaxing environment for professional people that are wanting to escape the hustle of everyday life…
A place where you can have a glass of wine and unwind while you receive your service. Surface-wise, we keep it simple and only cater to hair because that’s what we know. Hair Extensions are a strong focus with our stylist as well as color and hair shaping.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Like anything, there were some bumps along the way, a lot of guests have a hard time not being on their phones for conference calls or conversing while on speaker or watching videos. We understand it’s the way of the world. However, It can be quite intrusive to other guests, so we always encourage people to bring earbuds or just unplug and relax . We love children but we encourage guest with children to only bring them along when the child has a scheduled appointment.
Again, trying to create an environment where adults can escape is our main goal.
Like most businesses our main struggle was surviving through Covid. We were closed for six weeks and that can be quite detrimental to a stylist but we pitched in together and survived.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
A few years ago, I made a conscious decision to specialize in Hair Extensions. It is my true passion, I have since collected several certifications. I’m constantly seeking continued education for extensions so that I can offer the most up-to-date methods.
The majority of my stylists are all certified in extensions as well. I feel like we’re set apart from others because we work like a team, but are essentially all independent contractors working under the umbrella of T.Wesley Salon.
If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
I feel like one of the most important qualities and characteristics you can have as a stylist is being self-motivated and driven to learn more in your field.
I don’t want to ever be settled or stagnant, moving forward is the only way to go for us. I’m constantly setting personal and professional goals.
