Today we’d like to introduce you to Zariya Foster.
Zariya, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I grew up as a very extroverted child. I did every sport you could think of, I participated in all of the church activities, I made friends everywhere I went. That was until I reached high school. I still participated in sports and extra-curricular activities, I just became introverted. I developed social anxiety, and had a hard time being around other students. I believe this came from the teachers and staff in middle school always telling me to stop talking in class. There were many times when I would get in trouble for laughing too much or speaking to my friends. Which eventually affected my confidence in making new friends in high school. I’ve always had a creative mind because of how involved I was throughout my childhood. With sports and being in theater, I’ve always had endless creative thoughts. I could think of relatable videos with a caption and sound in mind. However, I would forget or never post them. It wasn’t until I left my hometown to attend college out of state, and that’s when I started to regain my confidence. My sophomore year is when I started to post content. I wasn’t sure if I could actually go viral or not, but I was never doubtful. After posting 3-4 videos, I saw my views increase from the thousands to the hundred-thousands to millions. With the encouragement of my friends and family, I have became a growing content creator with so many opportunities that I have gained from it. From business partnerships to new internships, being a content-creator has opened up many doors for me. I have also been able to learn so much about myself as well. I’ve discovered what I like and love, versus what I dislike. Being able to re-band myself, and sticking to my values/ beliefs has been a big reason in as to why I have been successful.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
As a growing content creator, I am also still a student at the end of the day. My days consist of classes, homework, studying for exams, meetings, extra-curricular, maintaining relationships, etc. Finding time to create content can be difficult at times. Especially on days where I need a mental break from social media. It’s often a battle, because I feel as if I need to be online to know the latest trends. I am sometimes afraid of getting left behind or missing out. However, when I come back from taking breaks, at least one of my videos go viral. I am grateful to say that everyone around me has been extremely supportive. No one in my immediate circle has ever been doubtful of my work and I appreciate that so much.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am a growing content creator, who creates relatable/ comedic videos. I get a lot of my ideas from movies and older sitcoms such as the Bernie Mac Show or Martin. Some of the content I make are based off of real life experiences I have faced, however, not all of my videos are solely about me. I also create fashion videos to show my outfit of the day, and Spend a Day With Me content. I am mostly proud of how creative I am when it comes to making content and the impact I have been able to make. On campus, I am known for doing multiple different activities such as step shows, modeling, acting, fashions shows, etc. I am very active within my community and I plan on expanding my content creation on my campus.
Can you talk to us a bit about happiness and what makes you happy?
I enjoy making relatable content for others and seeing how they react to my videos. I often have people telling me how much they enjoy my content when I’m walking around or out. The root of all my happiness and joy comes from God Himself. He is my everything and the reason why I have this gift. I also really enjoy spending time with my friends and family. They are also a big inspiration on my work and they never fail to bring me joy. No matter how I’m feeling, I can always count on them to make me laugh.
