Melissa Giovanni of Midtown on Life, Lessons & Legacy

We’re looking forward to introducing you to Melissa Giovanni. Check out our conversation below.

Hi Melissa, thank you for taking the time to reflect back on your journey with us. I think our readers are in for a real treat. There is so much we can all learn from each other and so thank you again for opening up with us. Let’s get into it: When was the last time you felt true joy?
This morning waking up to my daughter’s smiling face! She brings me so much joy everyday!

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Melissa Giovanni and I am a Registered Licensed Dietitian and Certified Eating Disorder Specialist and Consultant. I have a small group private practice in Nashville and Murfreesboro, TN with two other Registered Dietitians. We also offer virtual services. We specialize in working with clients with eating disorders and disordered eating as well as Women’s health, sports nutrition, family and adolescent feeding and other medical nutrition therapy related conditions. We are passionate about helping people heal their relationship with food and their bodies. We love working one on one with clients or couples/families and building a relationship while providing nutrition counseling. We offer groups at times and are all very involved in the community!

Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. What did you believe about yourself as a child that you no longer believe?
I used to believe that I couldn’t handle change or didn’t handle it well. Which couldn’t be farther from the truth looking back. I may not love change, but I definitely can handle it and have chosen change or the harder path many times in my life so far!

Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
When I decided to go back to school to become a dietitian the first year I applied to the program I didn’t get in. That moment felt really devastating and I did have the thought that maybe that wasn’t for me and I should just stay working in Human Resources where I was. I am so glad that I didn’t give up and I pursued my dreams and re-applied the following year and got in!

Sure, so let’s go deeper into your values and how you think. What would your closest friends say really matters to you?
My loves ones and client’s health and happiness!

Okay, we’ve made it essentially to the end. One last question before you go. When do you feel most at peace?
When I am running outside in nature with a good view!
