Michelle Reeves on Life, Lessons & Legacy

We recently had the chance to connect with Michelle Reeves and have shared our conversation below.

Michelle, a huge thanks to you for investing the time to share your wisdom with those who are seeking it. We think it’s so important for us to share stories with our neighbors, friends and community because knowledge multiples when we share with each other. Let’s jump in: Would YOU hire you? Why or why not?
Yes! More than anything at this moment in time, where so much hate is opening being practiced, HEART is, in my opinion, the most important commodity and reason to hire someone at this time. I have heart and from the heart comes the ability to love others, and man, do we need love right now!

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I came to painting later in life, but with an urgency and clarity that felt like remembering something I had always known.
My paintings are abstract floral compositions that express emotion through movement, color, and symbolic structure. Each work begins with curiosity — a “what if?” — and develops through texture, color layering, and bold risk-taking.
Today, my work is both personal and political. Whether through abstract joy or symbolic commentary, I seek to offer reflection, resonance, and empowerment.
I’m drawn to beauty with purpose—to compositions that are both emotionally rich and visually bold. My creative process is intuitive but intentional, balancing play with message, and spontaneity with structure.
It is with deep gratitude that I continue to explore this lifelong calling and share my voice through the language of paint.

Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. What did you believe about yourself as a child that you no longer believe?
Your inner child is incredibly powerful! What you believed about yourself as a child will shape you as an adult and you either spend a lifetime overcoming negative and limiting beliefs about yourself, or you live your truth in a productive authentic way. I was the person that spent a lifetime trying to feel worthy and seen. It wasn’t until I started to paint that I also started a true self healing journey and reconnected with who I really am and started on my truth seeking spiritual path. But what I have always known about myself, is the joy I feel when I create and the rightness of that moment. I’ve always been creative and I’ve always felt more myself when creating….why I waited 53 years to lean into this visceral, real, in my DNA part of myself is beyond me!

If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
I would tell my younger self that her worth has nothing to do with what she can or can’t do. Then I’d gently introduce her to the positive, healing energy of the universe—and show her how to tap into that vast power/love, not to prove herself, but to begin the most important journey of all: learning to love herself first.

Alright, so if you are open to it, let’s explore some philosophical questions that touch on your values and worldview. How do you differentiate between fads and real foundational shifts?
How do I differentiate between fads and real foundational shifts? Personal truth! I have found my truth, have a daily connection to that truth and have left the old teachings I was raised with behind! I choose to love my neighbor and connect with the light and love the universe has to give. You know it’s a fad when “it” isn’t good for you or your neighbor!

Okay, we’ve made it essentially to the end. One last question before you go. Could you give everything your best, even if no one ever praised you for it?
Abso-f*cking-lutely! Here is the one thing I have always done, even as a child. Granted praise is part of my love language, but I have never not done my best and have always had that drive to do so. With that said, I do love me a good “atta girl”.
