Misty Rodgers on Life, Lessons & Legacy

We recently had the chance to connect with Misty Rodgers and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Misty, thank you so much for joining us today. We’re thrilled to learn more about your journey, values and what you are currently working on. Let’s start with an ice breaker: What’s more important to you—intelligence, energy, or integrity?
When it comes to these three qualities – intelligence, energy & integrity..integrity by far is the most important. Sadly, it is scarce and hard to find these days.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Misty Rodgers, owner of BlendedBeautifullybyMisty.com as well as MistyRodgers.com. I was born in LA in the 1900’s (that’s what the kids call it nowadays), spent most of my life growing up in the Los Angeles area, then moved to Coastal North San Diego and now I am based out of Nashville, TN. I am a wife to a Southerner and proud Mama to 5 incredible children. As for my career path, I went to school for Marine Biology but always had a passion for art and all things creative. My first career shift happened several decades ago when I went from Biology to Beauty. I’ve worked for 25+ years as a Published/Featured Hair & Makeup Artist and Stylist. My second major career shift about 8+ years ago, was deciding to get in front of the camera as the talent and I have now work as an Internationally Represented Commercial Model & Actress. These days, my time is primarily spent homeschooling and cheering on my Husband and five children and when the opportunity presents itself, working as an Actor/Model for the commercial industry.

Thanks for sharing that. Would love to go back in time and hear about how your past might have impacted who you are today. What did you believe about yourself as a child that you no longer believe?
As a child who grew up in a very toxic and unhealthy environment, I was praised for my ability to diffuse difficult situations & people. Because of this, I built this belief system that my role, my gift was to help abusive people. In a sense, I was a rehabilitation center. I saw the good in these individuals, the potential and I truly believed that with the right amount of love, kindness, humor and selflessness these individuals would become a better version of themselves and in return would one day offer the same to me and others. What a Savior complex I had! That pattern was shattered time and time again with each relationship and in return I was left broken, beaten and just empty. Through enough grit, resilience, personal growth and faith I began to understand my true worth and my true responsibility. First, I learned that I am my own full time job. I need to stay in my line and can’t be out saving people. I am not Jesus. I learned that hurt people, hurt people. I learned that my empathy was no longer going to be used against me. Through a lot of self work and healing, I closed up that rehabilitation center and began again. Resolved, rebuilt, restored and most importantly renewed.

If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
I would tell my younger self,

“You, are enough. You are beautiful, strong, funny, talented, smart, kind and the list goes on. But sweetheart, you are enough. You don’t have to earn to be loved, heard, seen and valued. Your very existence is God breathed and ordained. You are worthy just because of you. Don’t ever let anyone take from you what is not theirs to have. Treasure your God given gifts and His plans for you. Doesn’t matter where you came from, greatness is within you and where you are going is a life full of blessings and adventure.

Alright, so if you are open to it, let’s explore some philosophical questions that touch on your values and worldview. What would your closest friends say really matters to you?
That she is all about her Relationships. Intentionally investing and knowing those around me and loving them well. Bringing life, love, laughter and wisdom into my daily interactions with my people. Being someone they can depend on no matter the need or the circumstance. Life is hard and it is short. Loving and living well is the most important.

Thank you so much for all of your openness so far. Maybe we can close with a future oriented question. What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
I hope that the story people tell the most about me, is the story of resilience. Through my family of origin, through all the ups and downs of early adulthood, through all the losses of divorce, domestic violence, single parenthood, custody battles..through it all was a Woman of Faith & Valor. A Woman who didn’t allow circumstances in life, poor choices, or people defeat her. This Woman had many scars but lived a life worth fighting for.
