Olivia Carroll on Life, Lessons & Legacy

Olivia Carroll shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.

Good morning Olivia, we’re so happy to have you here with us and we’d love to explore your story and how you think about life and legacy and so much more. So let’s start with a question we often ask: What’s more important to you—intelligence, energy, or integrity?
Having integrity in all I do is a quality I will always hold myself to. It keeps me grounded in both my personal and business life. To me, integrity paves a path for trust and authenticity.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Hey y’all! My name is Olivia Carroll and I am the photographer and business owner of Violet Skies Photography. I do portrait photography and real estate photography in Tennessee and Kentucky. I do portrait photoshoots for individuals, families, weddings, proposals/engagements, maternity, newborns, and graduations. I do real estate photography for buying/selling homes, Airbnb, VRBO, and business websites. I do HDR ground and aerial photography and videography for virtual tours.

Okay, so here’s a deep one: What relationship most shaped how you see yourself?
My relationship with my two children completely changed how I see myself. After having my kids, I became confident in my strength and leadership skills. From them, I believe in myself truly and know that I can get through any challenge put in front of me.

What fear has held you back the most in your life?
My greatest fear that has held me back most in life is public speaking. I am naturally quite soft spoken and it has taken me many years of pushing through that to get myself to where I am now. I love meeting and getting to know new people but I admit I still get a little nervous when I first start the conversation and it takes a few minutes to get comfortable. When I was younger, however, the thought of talking to a group of people I had never met before absolutely terrified me. I knew that was a great weakness of mine so I forced myself into those uncomfortable situations so I could grow. I didn’t want my weakness to define me or limit my future possibilities in career options.

Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? What would your closest friends say really matters to you?
My closest friends would all say, hands down, the thing that matters most to me is my relationship with my two children. I absolutely love being their mom. I would do anything for my kids. One of the reasons I chose to start my own business instead of continuing to work for a larger company was so that I could prioritize my time with my kids into my schedule. Spending quality time with my kids is the most important thing to me. I will never work on their birthday or a holiday because I know those special moments in time as they grow are numbered; they will not be home forever so my number one job is to be present for them.

Okay, so let’s keep going with one more question that means a lot to us: Are you doing what you were born to do—or what you were told to do?
I can say, without a doubt, I am doing what I was born to do. Throughout my life, I have been drawn to art and creativity. I deeply value the uniqueness of every individual and the meaningful bonds that connect people at every stage of life. I have always been sensitive to the importance of preserving moments and memories, and photography beautifully brings all of these values together. For instance, when I’m capturing a family, I am not simply aiming to create a visually beautiful image with great composition and light. I want each photograph to also tell a story- the story of that family, their love, their unique connection, and their joy.
