Rising Stars: Meet Alexandria Hall

Today we’d like to introduce you to Alexandria Hall.

Hi Alexandria, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
My entire life, I thought that after you graduated high school that going to college for 4+ years was the only option. At least that’s what they taught you. So I did just that, but I did not finish. After about two years of trying to find myself, I finally decided to do something for myself and drop out of college. For as long as I could remember, I loved everything’s beauty. Cosmetology was really what I was leaning towards. After taking two more years of working different jobs and being miserable with where I was, I decided to take the risk and go to beauty school. But I decided on the Esthetician program because I wanted to provide many services and I love the thought of helping change someone’s perspective, thoughts, etc… for the better. I knew that whatever I did, I wanted to make a difference. In this field, I knew it would not only empower woman but help them feel their best. It was something I knew would make me feel good about what I do. Fast forward, I finished the program and struggled finding work! After a few months of serving and desk jobs, I finally got a position at a local small business. For experience and learning purposes, it was wonderful! I am grateful for the opportunity to this day. But unfortunately, who I worked for was ruining the happiness I held around being an esthetician. Briefly explained, feeling belittled and disrespected after many months of hard work, I took the biggest risk ever and decided to open my own business. Having no idea what the future would hold, I drained my savings and was blessed to have lots of support from family so that I could open my shop- The Beauty Spot.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Nothing is ever smooth when it comes to making life changes. Between anxiety, depression, Covid-19… life was constantly throwing curveballs. I will say that when I was in beauty school, I didn’t even think that opening my own business would possible for at least 5-10 years. Not only the money you invest but making sure that you have enough clientele is a very large part of it. I mean… you are literally relying on your community, friends, family to help keep your business going by coming to see you. I honestly have never been a very negative person. I tend to stress myself out A LOT but when it comes to my dreams, I know how to surround myself and my thoughts with positivity and confidence. If you don’t believe in yourself, then it would be impossible to run a business completely alone. Every day is a battle of “will I make enough money to pay rent”, “will I have enough clientele this week”. Not comparing myself to my surrounding suite mates was difficult! It is difficult to not be hard on yourself when others are flourishing. But I kept my head in the game and promoted myself as much as I possibly could. I decided nothing could stop me.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
When I opened my business, I decided that I wanted to offer as many services as possible so that it was a one stop shop for customers. I offer many different Facials, full body waxing, Eye Lash Extensions, Lash Lifting & tinting, Dermaplaning, Brow lamination, Brow Tinting, and I am adding on spray tanning. Services are constantly changing and bringing something new to the table. So I try and stay on top of the game as long as my bank account allows it. Certifications are extremely pricey but so worth it. Right now, I would say I am known for lash extensions, lash lifting or brow laminations. These are the “hottest” trends in the beauty world right now. Dermaplaning is another service I frequent along with my facials. I would have to say I am most proud of my ability to keep going. As I said before, life is constantly throwing you curve balls and you cannot let one situation or person to get you down.

Otherwise, we would never make it! I have lost a lot of people since 2018 to 2020. I would say those were the hardest two years of my life. And this was pre-Covid disaster. So imagine that reality check… but I remain to this day thankful and just happy to be where I am today. I feel that my business sets me apart from others because I am not just in this for the money. I find most people working in this field because it is a growing and popular field and they know it brings good money but that is not me. I chose this field simply for the love of the work and I want to help others any way I can. Whether that be someone coming to see me simply so they can get 30-60 minutes of relaxation or quiet time, a safe place to vent, wanting to get a service to feel beautiful, there are endless reasons why people come to see me. I will always provide my customers with the best service and a safe environment.

How do you think about happiness?
Everyone says I am a fixer. I love helping others if they need something. I don’t think I would feel whole if I didn’t have the opportunity to help the people I love. What makes me happy is knowing that my people are happy. Friends, family, children… all of them. Giving back is really where my happiness lies.
