Today we’d like to introduce you to Alexis Wolfe.
Hi Alexis, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
“I remember drowning and poetry being my lifeguard. Whether I was pushed in or I jumped, poetry never stopped saving me.”
I started writing poetry in elementary school. I was born in Birmingham, Alabama, and often wrote for therapy and as a way to escape my harsh reality. I was the student that finished her classwork early just so I could read or write in my journal. I moved to Atlanta, Georgia when I was 12 where I began to dream!
While in high school, my English teacher Ms.Carney fell in love with my writing and entered me into a scholarship where I won. I moved to Clarksville, TN by way of the military. I was stationed at Fort Campbell and would often travel to Nashville looking for open mics.
I came across the Soul Food Poetry Cafe! I was 19, and Ms. Imani Rhema allowed me to perform, I received a standing ovation and from then on Alexis Wolfe was truly born. I spent time as a part of a collective of poets but decided to be solo. I was scared, but it was the best decision I could’ve made. I went to my first poetry slam, “Lipstick Wars,” founded by the amazing Rheonna Nicole, and won!
From then on, I began to compete! I’ve graced a number of stages, received awards, won poetry slams, have had billboards, and sold-out shows at monumental places such as the African American Museum, Apache Cafe, and City Winery! I became the 15th best woman poet in the world in March 2022. Oh, and I’m just getting started!
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
Smooth road? What’s that?
There are times when I literally question my sanity due to me trying to trailblaze a path and call forth my dreams to fruition. There are times when I’m booked back to back and times when my phone doesn’t ring.
I’ve lost people that I loved, friendships/relationships have been dismantled, and times when I don’t sleep. I feel alone a lot, I’ve slept in my car because I’m too tired to drive back after traveling out of town to perform! There are no smooth roads but I can’t quit, I’ll never quit.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
Ok, think about a tree right. Writing is my root/foundation but I have some branches and leaves. Spoken-word, poetry, violin, script writing, book, and songwriting are my branches.
I can do those because of what my root/foundation is. Now my leaves are things like my sense of fashion, my charming personality, and good character. You know the leaves make the tree look nice, jazz it all the way up, and well… look at me. hahaha
I’ve been working hard on writing songs/rap lyrics for artists, and movie/tv scripts and I have a children’s book coming out. That’s what makes me different. I’m not one-dimensional. My foundation is strong.
I’m a wordsmith, can’t anybody make love to words as I can, my performance is riveting, I’m authentic, I got a lion’s heart, my sense of community is strong, and my morals can’t be swayed. I’m really Her! I’m most proud of my persistence, most people would’ve quit by now, good thing I’m not most people.
Alright so before we go can you talk to us a bit about how people can work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
Come to my shows! I’d prefer all inquiries to go to my managers Lillian Mac and Berto. I like to just focus on my art I leave the organization part to them.
Talk to me, and give me feedback. I don’t bite.

Alexis, you have grown up to be a very intelligent and beautiful woman. Reading over what you said about yourself you describe yourself perfectly. We all have goals. It’s up to us to reach those goals. I recommend that you continue doing what you are doing it doesn’t matter what people think that’s not important to you that shouldn’t be important to you what’s important is Alexis. If you keep God first Lexi you will reach all your goals just continue being positive and you’ll make all your goals. I love you Alexis.
