Rising Stars: Meet Alley Bardon of Hendersonville

Today we’d like to introduce you to Alley Bardon

Hi Alley, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I’ve always been a creative at heart. Since getting chickens in the spring of 2024 and watching my vision come to life as my husband built them a gorgeous chicken coop (or as we like to say.. mansion), I knew I wanted to launch a farm stand. I encouraged my husband to build me a stand with the scraps he had left over from the coop and to my surprise, he did just that! Since launching the stand this fall, we have had really great success. I sell sourdough, eggs, homemade butter, candied nuts, honey sticks, candles, potpourri, and more.

The stand isn’t my full-time job, but it is something I truly enjoy and something that I look forward to every day.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
We are first time chicken owners, so we have had quite a bit of a learning curve on the chicken tending side. Like ever chicken owner, we’ve experienced loss and it comes with great heartbreak. We’ve also learned we don’t have nearly enough chickens! We started with 10 and I now know that I want (and probably need) way more to sustain and fully stocked farm stand.

While I know owning farm animals and baking loaves of bread that take 2 to 3 days to complete, aren’t quick or easy money making techniques, there is something really special about knowing the food myself and my community are consuming is healthy and nutritious. A lot of hard work, time, money, and love go into these simple products but I stand behind them 100%.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am a creative and marketer at heart.

I have an undergraduate degree in studio art with an emphasis in painting, an MBA with an emphasis in marketing, and I am currently working on my PhD in leadership.

I work as an AVP of marketing at a private university based out of St. Louis.

However, in my free time, I enjoy being a homemaker and raising animals. Running a small farm stand is such an accomplishment for me and truly makes me so happy.

I love that I’ve been able to couple my creative and marketing skills together to put it into the stand. While it may not look like much to some, it is one of my most cherished accomplishments.

How do you define success?
I define success by doing something that gives you meaning. Whether that be your professional career or something on the side, doing what you truly enjoy is success.
