Rising Stars: Meet Alysa Morton of The heart of Nashville!

Today we’d like to introduce you to Alysa Morton.

Hi Alysa, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Since a child I knew I wanted to be in the beauty industry either from designing clothes, styling hair, makeup etc.. But throughout my childhood & high school years life wasn’t so great. I went through my young life being verbally, sexually, and physically abused, So, I decided I wanted to go to college to get a degree where I can talk to children, women, anyone about how much life is worth living if you had the right mindset. Well, either college wasn’t for me or I wasn’t for college but I didn’t finish my first year. I grew up around a lot of women in the nail industry and I decided to give it a shot. After working on so many clients a day I listened to so many people talk about their stories “struggles or huge milestones” and I knew this was the industry I wanted to be in! I took extra classes to perfect my craft, nail art became calming and therapeutic for me! 10 years later I still sit in my chair doing what I love most and listening to women talk about how great or bad, how happy or sad, about what goals and aspirations they had! I give my advice when needed and an ear, a hug, and a beautiful set of nails to top it all off!

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Becoming a nail was not easy!! I realized early on that not all girls are “girls, girls” I admit that they’re some awesome women in the industry that will answer any questions you had. But a lot of things I know now are all from trial and error. The main thing I struggled with the most being a nail tech is wanting to be a perfectionist. I wanted to make sure sets lasted at least 2-3 weeks, I would have anxiety if a client came in for a nail fix because that means I didn’t do something right!

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am a nail technician of 10 years, I specialize in a few things gelx extensions, luminary hard gel, and gel polish. But I’m mainly known for my nail art, I’m not the best but what sets me apart from others is that I’m dedicated and I have not turned down any art a client asks for. I’m proud of the growth I have made for myself, my past does not reflect on my future and I had to show myself that!

What does success mean to you?
Success…? It’s not about money, it’s not about how many people you know, it’s about the impact you make on others. Success to me is being blessed to wake another day to do what I love & to be able to take care of family as I see fit. Success is being a better person today than I was yesterday!
