Today we’d like to introduce you to Amanda Page Cornett.
Hi Amanda, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstories with our readers?
I grew up in Spartanburg, SC, home of the Marshall Tucker band, Marshall Chapman, and many other musicians.
I started making up songs before I could talk and began writing them down when I was 9 years old. Music definitely chose me. My influences have always been the rebels of music; the Judds, Tanya Tucker, Charlie Daniels, Janis Joplin, etc.
When I moved to Nashville, I knew it would be a hard road and I knew I had a lot to learn. I began co-writing more and more, learning from others’ experiences, and honing my skills as a writer and singer.
After a bad car wreck, which caused arm injuries and led to laryngitis, I ended up taking guitar lessons again with Dave Isaacs (Nashville Guitar Guru) and learning to play more efficiently to not exacerbate my injuries. I also was referred to as my “voice angel”, vocal coach Liz Johnson, who not only helped my voice recover but pushed me to new amazing limits vocally.
So, after a lot of years of finding my sound, my long-term band, the Almost Angels, and I cut our first full studio album. Randall Scott Peterson, my guitar player and co-producer, and I spent about 6 months prepping to create an album we would love! The whole band, Randy, Sherry Peterson-Tenille on bass, and Shawn Peterson on drums, and I went to historic Muscle Shoals, Alabama to the NuttHouse Recording Studio to record “Front Porch Rebel”.
With the help of engineers Cody Simmons and Jimmy Nutt, and amazing musicians, including Spooner Oldham, Mark Narmore, Charles Rose, Wayne Bridge, and more, we recorded an album we are so proud of! It’s a mix of southern rock, country, and blues. I call it “Southern Rock n Soul.”
We are currently working on new music and booking tours for the fall!
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
There are always obstacles to overcome, including competition, trying to open the right doors, making mistakes and learning from them, etc.
Not long after my wreck, I had a “come to Jesus” meeting and realized I had allowed the difficulties of the music business, to alter my reasons for doing music. I did some deep diving and came up with a mission statement for my music to keep me focused.
My music is to create and execute authentic music people can deeply feel.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am a songwriter and entertainer.
My music is a unique mix of southern rock n soul, and I aim to make music that makes people feel something, whether it be hard-hitting truth, fun, or taking them to the beach. I want people to go on the musical journey with me!
Can you share something surprising about yourself?
I make my own feather earrings. It started when I collected pheasant and guinea feathers from my great uncle’s farm! I love the flowy freedom of the feathers!
I also do a lot of woodworking. I build small furniture and carve guitars, crosses, etc out of pieces of wood I find.
