Rising Stars: Meet Amanda Taylor

Today we’d like to introduce you to Amanda Taylor.

Hi Amanda, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I grew up in a musical family in Fort Wayne Indiana, so Nashville had been my dream from a young age. I was able to make it a reality at age nineteen when I moved down to attend Belmont University. After graduating, I alongside my lead-guitarist mother, formed our band ‘The Taylors & The Mama Tried Band.’

Throughout the years we have played regularly at multiple lower Broadway and Nashville tourist venues, performed live on the legendary WSM Radio, were featured performers at The Country Music Hall of Fame, played in Las Vegas, and much more. In 2019, we were featured in a Nashville WSMV News Channel 4 segment, for which the reporter won a Midsouth Emmy Award. The title of his award-winning segment was my own original song called “Plans Change.” The song and feature story highlighted our continuing to play music together throughout my mom’s breast cancer journey.

I have always chosen not to have music be my full-time income so it is something I can do because I love and not out of necessity. Therefore, in order to pay the bills, I was also a bartender on lower Broadway for many years. Those were some of the best times of my life, but I had decided that I needed to explore a more long-term career.

Armed with an entrepreneurial drive and spirit, not being cut out for the nine to five life, and a love of all things houses, I decided to jump into real estate. Many of my clients were friends & acquaintances’ that I had met through music. One of my favorite “only in Nashville” experiences as a Realtor, was when I had to do a virtual showing for a client who at the time was on the road with a major country artist. Immediately following the showing, I myself had to go straight to performing on WSM Radio.

At first, I kept the music and real estate separate going only as Amanda Taylor Realtor, but soon I began to realize that my two worlds wonderfully collided. There was no better place than Music City for me to blend the two and become ‘Your Tennessee Singing Realtor.’ The creative juices started flowing and that’s when I wrote, recorded, and released a music video parody of Miranda Lambert’s hit song ‘House That Built Me’ (https://youtu.be/XVREvGN09Yc).

This coming June will mark six years as a licensed real estate agent. I am grateful to have been presented the 2017 ‘Silver Level’ and ‘Million Dollar Producer’ awards and most recently the 2021 ‘Platinum Level’ and ‘Multi-million Dollar Producer’ awards from my brokerage. Recently, we were honored to have the opportunity to act in an Acclaim Films movie called ‘My Perfect Love,’ which will be released to streaming media outlets this year.

Once again my two worlds collided as my brokerage, House Realty, provided a shoot location for one of the scenes in the movie. I have learned so much from my amazing broker and truly enjoy helping clients find homes in the city I love.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
I believe almost anything in life, especially things worth doing, can present challenges. My first full year in real estate was pretty good and really helped to solidify that I had found something I wanted to pursue. Over the next few years, I had some struggles financially & otherwise, and there were times that I had thought about just quitting and giving up.

Thankfully friends and family, as well as my very supportive broker, encouraged me to keep going as it can take many years in real estate to make a name for yourself. I knew I wanted to develop my own brand, which helped to spark the idea of creating the parody and music video, and just going all in as Your Tn Singing Realtor. I had my personal best year in 2021 and finally felt like I had started to reach my stride to be able to get to where I want to be. All of my clients were friends, acquaintances, and referrals, which meant people in my world were finally thinking of me when they thought of real estate.

Musically, the Pandemic brought numerous challenges. Between venues closing down and then switching up their band lineups, we found ourselves at many points with no gigs. We had to go back to basics and realign what it is we wanted, and just keep working. I think those of us who choose self-employed and creative careers have to be strong enough to keep the faith and keep striving.

Everything has its cycles and its ups and downs, but if you are determined and hang on long enough you will be on the upswing again!

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am in a city with a billion and one singers, musicians, artists, & creatives and about a million and one who are also real estate agents, haha. So I definitely am not the only one doing what I do.

I hope what will set me apart for my clients is just always doing my best for them, and I do hope to get to a place where people will think of ‘Your Tennessee Singing Realtor’ when they think of moving to Nashville. I am a residential agent with House Realty, serving the greater Nashville and Middle Tennessee area.

My brokerage is a locally, female-owned independent brokerage, of which I am proud to be a part. We offer a more one-on-one personal experience and care about the needs of our community and clients. Musically, I’m really proud of my families’ legacy and to get to play music with my mom, as she has taught me so much.

Are there any books, apps, podcasts, or blogs that help you do your best?
I know I’m not with the times but I’m not a big app user or podcast listener. I mostly use my planners, of which I have one for real estate and one for my everyday life. They help to keep me organized and I love to cross things off my lists, like a big nerd!

With such a busy lifestyle, I love to mostly read fiction and beach reads, to kind of just wind down from the real world.
