Today we’d like to introduce you to Amy & Laura Padden
Hi Amy & Laura, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
We were born into a musical family, both our parents are in a band, and from an early age we began taking music and singing lessons. It really started when we were chosen to appear on the “Late Late Toy Show” on national television and after that began to play music in venues at 13 years of age when the band consisted of ourselves, our brother Ethan and our parents. We played at venues all over the country and appeared on national radio and TV shows reaching the final of a programme called “Realta Agus Gaolta”, a family talent show. We began Irishize as a 3 piece when Ethan moved to college and we broadened our setlist to include more modern music as well as classics from the 80s & 90s. As well as performing in the band “Irishize” we also play with a bigger wedding and corporate band called “Wavelength”. Earlier this year we visited Nashville and got to record a version of Cyndi Lauper’s 1980s classic “Time After Time”.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It was tough gigging in the early days especially with late nights and been up for school in the morning. We had one big advantage in that our parents were involved in music so we had access to equipment, transport etc.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
Amy has just finished college and has begun her career as a primary school teacher, something she always wanted to do. Laura is in the 3rd year in college studying HR and is also working as a receptionist in Connolly Car Sales, Ballina, Co. Mayo.
