Rising Stars: Meet Amy Robinson

Today we’d like to introduce you to Amy Robinson.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
When I was younger, I would watch every single Interior design show on TLC. I would want to rearrange and redecorate my bedroom every month. I’ve always been interested in art and design, no matter what it is. As I got older and prepared for college, I wasn’t sure if the interior design was exactly what I wanted to do but I knew I wanted to do something that keep me interested for the rest of my life – which meant it needed to be fun.

While in my sophomore year of college, an internship opportunity came about with a top-flight event planning and design company in the area. Upon my first wedding with them, I knew the wedding design was where I was supposed to be. I then discovered my passion for floral design and wedding planning. After graduating, I started planning and designing weddings independently for friends and have been building trusted relationships with couples and growing Amy & I Designs ever since.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
No, it hasn’t always been rainbows and butterflies. Everyone assumes that working weddings must be “the best job ever” and “so fun” and it is, but not always. 14+ hours on your feet running around, making sure the photographers are getting the shots they need, tables are getting set correctly, caterers are arriving on time, keeping hair and makeup on time, hoping it doesn’t rain, managing my floral design team, all while keeping a smile on my face and providing a fun work environment can be exhausting!

On top of that, the stress that goes into owning your own business through a pandemic while hoping to still make a living for your family is very trying. When we got hit with Covid-19 and all social gatherings came to a halt, that meant weddings couldn’t go on either. Weddings that I had already planned, weddings that I had already put so many hours into designing, and even some weddings that I had already purchased flowers for and couldn’t return. I had to postpone several weddings and keep many couples calm all while not knowing what the future held for my business.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
