Today we’d like to introduce you to Angela Finelli.
Hi Angela, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I have been a self taught artist my entire life. I deeply believe in using art as a catalyst of healing throughout hardships endured in life. Enduring my share of hardships from an early age, I nearly lost my mother to a TBI as well as two strokes at the age of five. Unsure as to how I could help her I began creating works of art as inspiration for her and I during such a dark time.
Having been born in Egg Harbor Township, New Jersey, with the beauty of the east coast at my fingertips, I quickly began experimenting across all artistic mediums.
My senior year of highschool I endured the unexpected and tragic passing of my father. My mother having been cared for by him my entire life, quickly fell dependent upon me, a duty I gladly accepted. This led me 900 miles upon Spring Hill, Tennessee, where I quickly picked up paint instructing through a popular paint & sip company. After teaching many classes, gathering experience, and further developing my skills in Nashville, I packed my bags and headed back to the East Coast to further establish my artistic abilities closer to my routes.
Since being home, I have exceeded my own expectations in the way of my artistic abilities. Recently having the wonderful opportunity to place 5th in the Quarter-finals of Johnny Depps’ People’s Artist Award. I work to further develop my skills and brand everyday all the while caring for my family the same as I always have. I am incredibly grateful for any level of recognition, as an artist all I can truly dream of is to inspire in this lifetime.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The road is never smooth for our chosen path in life, however, I choose to look past the road bumps endured and keep my eye on the prize. The prize being each and every smile brought to another via my art work.
There were many times in my life where I put the pencil or paint brush down sworn to never pick it up again, feeling as though no one would ever truly care to view the pieces I pour my very soul into. Feeling as though I would never have the opportunity to spend my life doing what I feel I was made to do. Alas the squeaky wheel will always get the grease and I am grateful for every bit of hardship along the way as it’s shaped me into the Artist I am today.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I work across all mediums as an artist. Starting in graphite/charcoals, slowly progressing through acrylic, and finally landing myself firmly upon oils. I am known for my heavily detailed surrealism oil paintings as well as my intricate graphite portrait work. I find deep passion in still life painting as well as expressive portraiture. All of my work is created purely from thought and vision as I use little to no references during creation. I enjoy conveying deeper meaning in my work, allowing the viewer to sit and ponder my true intentions of the piece.
What would you say have been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
The most important lesson I’ve learned upon this journey is that, when life gives you lemons, bake cookies because life is truly what we make it to be.
