Rising Stars: Meet Bethany Jahner

Today we’d like to introduce you to Bethany Jahner.

Hi Bethany, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I started hair school in April of 2004 and graduated in December 2005. I immediately took a position at my dream salon, Studio Gaven, in Cool Springs. At Studio Gaven, I started my journey as a front desk employee and worked my way up to a stylist position by April 2007.

At Studio Gaven, we were offered an array of classes and I even had an opportunity to go to NYC for outside education at Redken and at Bumble & bumble University!  In 2013, I became a Redken Certified Colorist. In 2016, I became a certified Redken Blonde Authority. In addition to Redken Blonde Authority, I became an educator and mentored four associates. In April 2019, I experienced stylist burnout and decided to step away from hairstyling altogether to pursue my newfound passion for energy work.

To my surprise, I was already doing it behind the chair! After a 9 month “pause for clarity,” my passion for hair was reignited and I took a position at the front desk of an organic salon and worked my way up again to a stylist position. In May of 2020, I shifted gears and began working for my boss babe friend Amanda Craig at Leigh, Edwards, & Co. During my time under Amanda, I taught classes and further developed the energetic-hygiene component of my work.

In August 2021, I followed my calling, at the deepest level to date, and Root 2 Crown Styling was born. My passion is providing a safe place for my clients to unwind, relax, be seen, heard, and receive the TLC their soul and hair needs.

What separates me from “your average stylist” is the compassionate, heart led space for conversation, the healing scalp massage, the visualization exercises, and the breathwork at the shampoo bowl. I provide a space to encourage my clients to shift back to their center and leave with a harmonized mind, body, and spirit experience to carry them through the rest of their day. Through my own methods behind the chair and at the shampoo bowl, I feel I have a lot to offer fellow stylists. There is a sacred energetic dance between the stylist and guest. As I continue to develop and guide people to show up as they are, I am confident in knowing the best is yet to come!

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It has not always been smooth!

I definitely had moments where I felt stuck and not able to go any further. I was exhausted, depleted, burnt out, and running on fumes at some points! I’ve struggled with how many clients to take at once, being an educator and allowing my mentee to really dive in, self-doubt, being uninspired, and all the new things that self-employment brings.

I’d also add learning to have boundaries around my time and energy was a bumpy road, but now I feel more in the flow with it. Being a business owner has shown me that my business is a direct reflection of my inner world. If I want my business to succeed, it’s on me to do the inner work.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I specialize in helping my clients really feel their best. I absolutely love live-in low-maintenance colors with custom glazes. Brunettes have my heart, but I love doing blondes as well! I’m most proud of the fact that I created my own business, something I never imagined I would do!

I’m also proud of everything that led me to where I am today. What sets me apart from others is that I am intentional with my work. From the beginning of each day, actually setting intentions for how I want each client to feel and receive love, to attention to detail, and taking the time to give a tailored experience.

I’ve also learned how to energetically disconnect after each client and that has been a game changer for me! I call it energetic-hygiene, something I’m inspired to teach other stylists that are experiencing burnout.

Is there anything else you’d like to share with our readers?
I am at the tip of the iceberg in my healing journey and I would love to work with anyone going through their own healing journey! It truly takes a village and I’m happy to be of service!
