Brandon Hirsch

Hi Brandon, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I am originally from Hendersonville, TN, so yes I am a native to the Nashville area. I played organized sports through high school and a pretty normal middle class upbringing. However, even as a small child, I remember having the desire to do “something different” or to follow the path less-traveled.

It was in middle school that I really started to consider the idea of pursuing opportunities to be on camera, first as a model and then, of course, later as an actor.

One of my first agents suggested taking a commercial workshop one weekend. I learned a lot, but I was also left with a lot of questions. I’ve had the desire to answer those questions for myself and others ever since. Professionally, I started out doing commercials, training and music videos, and extra work in Nashville.

I moved to L.A. at 19 and lived there for several years. It was there that I really had the opportunity to invest in my craft and develop as an artist. My time in Los Angeles was transformational and really deepened my understanding of the intricacies involved in relationships and human interaction.

Ultimately, I returned home, got married and started having kids. Sufficeth to say, these are roles that required me to be a both better communicator and teacher.

This past Spring, after a period of soul-searching, I decided to formally offer these insights, on both acting and life, by opening Elemental Actors Studio in Nashville, TN.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
I think part of what makes actors, or being an actor, special, is that early on, we are presented with significant obstacles, from relocating to getting representation, to balancing our artistic development with our social and family obligations to making ends meet between gigs.

It all requires us to accept difficulty as part of the endeavor. Over time, we start to see obstacles and challenges as being necessary for growth and while most people run and hide, actors run and FIND.

When it came to starting Elemental Actors Studio it was the same. I identified a million reasons why I shouldn’t, but ultimately I arrived at the same answer that propelled me past previous obstacles in my career-I HAD TO.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I’ve been working on camera as an actor in tv/film, commercials, and theatre for almost 30 years. It’s an understatement to say I have been blessed to work on some truly amazing projects with truly amazing people. However, beyond the mention of any specific role or project, I think what sets me apart from many actors is my agility as a performer.

It’s really easy to get distracted and dismayed by “imperfection” as an actor, but I’ve found that if you can keep your composure and expect the unexpected, these unexpected moments are opportunities for exploration within the confines of the work or scene, and opportunities for personal growth in life. These are the exact tenets we seek to inspire and develop in our actors at Elemental Actors Studio.

Is there anyone you’d like to thank or give credit to?
I was fortunate enough to have had a cadre of individuals who have provided meaningful support and mentorship over the years.

My parents, John and Joan Hirsch, have always been encouraging and supportive and continue to be a significant part of my “why”.

As far as the craft itself, I’ve worked with lots of coaches and teachers, but Alan Feinstein (Studio City, CA) stands out, by far, as the most influential in terms of my approach as a performer and in my own work as a coach at Elemental Actors Studio (East Nashville, TN).

My dear friend Laray Mayfield, CSA has been a constant along this journey, Having hailed from the same hometown, her mere presence and continued support over the years have been frequent reminders that “Yes I can…”

My brother and mentor Director, Writer, and Producer, Alex Munoz has consistently been a model of personal, professional, and artistic integrity that has inspired me to honor what‘s within, even when faced with the prospect of doing or going without.

My team of agents and my manager, Shaun Cairo, have been instrumental in ensuring that opportunities continue to flow.

My wife Erica, and our kiddos, Ayla, Lennon, and Lachland continue to choose me on a daily basis, giving me purpose, keeping me grounded and reminding me of what really matters.

These types of lists are always tough. I have a hundred people in my heart right now, and I am grateful for them all.
