Today we’d like to introduce you to Bri Mcclure
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Photography has been woven into my story since high school (and truthfully before that), where I first discovered my passion through film photography classes in Indiana. By the time I received my first digital camera for Christmas in 2012, I was already hooked. At that point, I envisioned a future in Fine Arts, initially leaning toward graphic design.
In 2014, I graduated high school and was accepted into the University of Cincinnati as an undecided student, still debating between graphic design and fine arts. That same year, I began taking on senior photo and couples sessions on the side, eventually venturing into second shooting weddings with local photographers. It didn’t take long for me to realize I had found something I was passionate about.
The following year, I was accepted into the University of Cincinnati’s College of Design, Architecture, Art, and Planning’s Fine Arts program, determined to pursue photography more seriously. My first co-op with the program was with a local online magazine that spotlighted small businesses and individuals around Cincinnati. It was here that my love for storytelling truly solidified. Building on that experience, my next co-op took me on an unforgettable journey living on the road for four months out west. During this time, I focused on storytelling within national parks, exploring conservation efforts, and capturing the breathtaking beauty of these protected landscapes.
In 2017, while continuing to shoot sessions and weddings, I officially launched my photography business. Early the next year, I took on my first solo wedding, a milestone that affirmed my path.
Fast forward to 2020, I moved to Nashville to be with my then-boyfriend (now husband), just as my six-year college program came to an unexpected halt due to the pandemic (graduating online and forfeiting the large solo art show we all worked so hard for). That same year, I attended a photography workshop in Asheville, North Carolina, where I met my now-best friend. Together, we launched a photography workshop and styled shoot business that has grown into something truly special.
Today, five years later, I’ve had the privilege of capturing love stories in 27 states, Puerto Rico, and Costa Rica. We’ve hosted six transformative retreats (with two more on the horizon), taught 54 photographers worldwide, and organized 56 styled shoots. It’s been an incredible journey, and I feel endlessly grateful to do what I love while helping others bring their creative visions to life.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Like most creatives, I’ve faced my fair share of struggles—it seems to come with the territory of being an artist! My biggest challenge was moving my entire business two states away. Growing up in the Cincinnati tri-state area, I had built a solid client base there. So, relocating to a new state, where I barely knew anyone, in the middle of a pandemic was no small feat. It took an incredible amount of effort, intentional networking, and strategic marketing within the industry to rebuild my portfolio and establish a new client base in Nashville.
Beyond that, like many, I’ve wrestled with figuring out exactly where I fit in this ever-evolving and competitive industry. But now, almost eight years in\, I can confidently say I’m really happy with where I am. Every challenge has helped me grow, and I’m so grateful for the clients and community I’ve built along the way.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I’m a wedding photographer and educator based in Nashville, Tennessee, specializing in romantic, documentary-style storytelling through both 35mm film and digital photography. My work focuses on capturing authentic, intimate moments that feel nostalgic yet timeless, allowing couples to relive the emotions of their day for years to come.
I believe, what sets me apart is my commitment to creating an experience that goes beyond just photography. I build meaningful connections with my clients, helping them feel at ease so their truest selves shine through in their images. I also draw from my fine arts background, which influences my approach to composition, light, and color, giving my work a distinctive artistic touch.
One of the things I’m most proud of is hearing my couples tell me that I captured them authentically and documented little moments they didn’t even realize were happening. Knowing that my work allows them to experience their wedding day fully—and cherish even the fleeting moments they might have missed—means the world to me. At the heart of everything I do is the desire to tell stories that are deeply personal and authentic—whether it’s through an intimate elopement in the mountains or a backyard wedding surrounded by 200 loved ones. Each story is unique, and I feel so honored to be the one trusted to document it.
Have you learned any interesting or important lessons due to the Covid-19 Crisis?
Being willing to change and adapt is essential. When Covid hit, I shifted my focus to elopements and micro weddings—since those were the only options at the time. That flexibility not only allowed me to continue serving my couples during such an uncertain period but also helped me uncover a new love for intimate celebrations. If I hadn’t been willing to pivot during that time, my business likely wouldn’t have made it through the pandemic.
