Today we’d like to introduce you to Britt Simmons.
Hi Britt, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Originally from New Orleans, I moved to Nashville in 2001 to attend Belmont University. Along the way, I studied art history in Florence, sharpened my copywriting skills at an agency outside London, and earned early recognition from the American Advertising Federation. Since then, I’ve had the opportunity to lead award-winning work across media production, creative direction, and writing – receiving Addy, Telly, and Parthenon awards along the way.
Over the years I’ve conducted more than 2,000 interviews with everyone from business leaders and policymakers to community advocates and everyday folks. The experience has been something of an informal degree in anthropology, offering a deeper understanding of what drives people and how stories connect us.
I’m at my best collaborating with others – ideally near a whiteboard. Outside of work, I’m a voracious reader, fly angler, third-generation woodworker, and (to the chagrin of my wife and kids) a dad-joke enthusiast.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The road has seldom been smooth, but it’s always been fulfilling; if not interesting.
Managing the direction of the work in front of you while also looking months ahead is no small feat. The all-too-familiar pull between working in the business and working on the business can be tough to navigate.
As for the work itself: maintaining a high standard is non-negotiable – but not at the expense of your health. Burnout is real, and I’ve had to learn the hard way how to manage it. Kind of.
Layer in the ever-shifting trends and a media landscape that’s constantly being reinvented, and some days you wonder what life might be like in a simpler line of work.
Nevertheless, I’m proud and I’m grateful. Like Frost’s Road Not Taken, it’s made all the difference.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I help organizations tell stories that build trust. Most of my work lives at the intersection of strategy and storytelling – usually in the form of brand messaging, video content, and campaign development. I’ve worked across healthcare, education, nonprofit, and financial sectors, partnering with clients to shape narratives that actually resonate with the people they’re trying to reach.
What I’m probably best known for is helping people find the signal in the noise. Whether it’s a one-on-one interview or a multi-day strategy session, I’m good at asking the right questions, listening closely, and distilling complexity into something clear, honest, and human.
I’m most proud of the relationships that have come from the work – clients who’ve become collaborators, and projects that have led to long-term trust. That, to me, is the real measure of success.
What makes you happy?
We are as conduit, not vessels. Creative work is fulfilling to me because I have the privilege of drawing on my own innate curiosity. With a little found inspiration and the opportunity to help someone with something to say, you have the makings of magic.
To gain insight from without, meditate on it from within, and use it to make an external impact – that is among the greatest privileges I can imagine. It’s divine.
