Rising Stars: Meet Brooklyn Clark of central

Today we’d like to introduce you to Brooklyn Clark

Hi Brooklyn, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I am a portrait and documentary photographer. I’ve been working in photography seriously for 10 years but it’s been something I’ve loved since I was 12. My dad gave me our family camera at 12 years old and I have been obsessed ever since. The thing that I love the most about photography is documenting real moments in people’s lives. Getting a start young helped me to develop an eye for the small moments and the things that most people miss out on.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Just like all things in life there have been many struggles along the way. I started building my instagram presence when I was in college and worked at a studio. While working there my bosses did not like the fact that I was growing my own brand. This led to many years of trouble and rules being placed to keep me from building my own style. Once I set out on my own that came with its own trials. Being in this business means many many different seasons of alot business and slow business. In the slow times it’s important to take time for yourself and to prepare for busy seasons.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am a portrait photographer with a focus on documentary style. I am known on instagram for being the account who only posts black and white photos. For me, black and white photos show more emotion and let the subject of the photo be the true pull of focus. As a documentary style photographer it isn’t about the location or style as much as it is about the subject. It’s about the things that are happening in the photo instead of what I did to make it happen. To be able to show people how I view them rather then how they view themselves is something that I cherish about photography.

We’d love to hear about how you think about risk taking?
Being a creative is being a risk-taker. We put all of our dreams and wellbeing into something that is subjective. We have faith that there are other people in the world who understand and value our art. Being able to do that is practically all risk. Taking risk on yourself is something that I strongly encourage everyone to do. Put faith and action into your dreams and watch them come to life.
