Today we’d like to introduce you to Carlos Lopez.
Hi Carlos , we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My name is Carlos Lopez, and I’m proud to be the first-ever Spanish voice of the Tennessee Volunteers. I was born in Venezuela, and my journey to where I am today has been one of faith, perseverance, and purpose.
After coming to the United States, I earned my B.A. from Carson-Newman University, my M.S. from Middle Tennessee State University, and my M.Ed. from the University of Tennessee. For over a decade, I’ve dedicated my life to education, teaching Spanish and ESL in East Tennessee schools. But deep down, I always had another passion, to use my voice to bridge cultures and bring people together through sports.
That dream came to life with VamosVols, the official Spanish broadcast of Tennessee Athletics. Through VamosVols, I’ve had the honor of calling Volunteer football games en español, making Tennessee Athletics more accessible and inclusive for the Hispanic community.
This journey has been nothing short of a blessing. From my roots in Venezuela to calling games for the Vols, I’ve learned that when you follow God’s plan and stay faithful through every season, anything is possible. My hope is to continue inspiring others, both in the classroom and behind the microphone, to believe that their voice matters and that dreams really do come true.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Not at all, the road has been anything but smooth, but every challenge has shaped who we are today. When I first started VamosVols, there was no blueprint for what I was trying to do. I was stepping into new territory, bringing Spanish broadcasts to a fanbase and a program that had never had that before.
There were moments of doubt, limited resources, and plenty of learning curves. We had to fight through technical hurdles, build credibility, and prove that there was not only a need for this but a deep passion for it in our community.
But through it all, I kept our faith and stayed committed to the mission: to give the Latino community a voice in Tennessee Athletics. Every obstacle became a lesson, and every small victory was a reminder that purpose will always outweigh pain.
Today, I amproud of how far we’ve come, not because it’s been easy, but because God’s hand has been in every step of the journey. We still have much room for growth but every day is a new day to get better.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
At VamosVols, we specialize in bringing Tennessee Athletics to life en español. Our goal has always been to bridge cultures through sports and create a space where Spanish-speaking fans can feel seen, heard, and part of the Volunteer family.
I provide Spanish play-by-play and analysis for Tennessee games, as well as postgame shows, interviews, and community content that celebrates our players, our fans, and our culture. What started as a small dream has grown into something much bigger, a platform that connects two worlds through the power of storytelling and passion for the game.
What I’m most proud of is knowing that we’re inspiring a new generation of Latino fans and young broadcasters who can see themselves in this space. It’s more than just calling games, it’s about opening doors that didn’t exist before and showing that representation matters.
What sets VamosVols apart is authenticity. We don’t just translate words; we translate emotion. Every broadcast, every post, every moment is filled with real heart. We celebrate faith, culture, and community, and that’s what makes VamosVols more than just a broadcast. It’s a movement.
What matters most to you?
What matters most to me today is purpose. Walking in the purpose that God has placed over my life. Every day, I wake up grateful for the opportunity to use my voice to inspire, to teach, and to represent my community in a positive way.
Faith, family, and impact are at the center of everything I do. Whether it’s in the classroom or behind the microphone, my goal is to serve others and remind them that dreams don’t just belong to a certain group, they belong to anyone willing to work hard, stay faithful, and never give up.
VamosVols isn’t just about sports; it’s about connection. It’s about bringing people together, celebrating where we come from, and showing that with God’s timing, even the impossible can become reality. That’s what truly matters most to me.
