Today we’d like to introduce you to Catelyn Picco.
Hi Catelyn, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
For as long as I can remember, I have loved to sing. My first performance ever was in 1st grade for the school talent show. I sang “Castle on a Cloud” by Les Miserables. Throughout my life, I have always learned music and truly enjoyed it. When I got to the age of 12, I was practicing guitar and singing all the time. Then, when I was 15 I had my first performance as a solo acoustic artist at an open mic hosted at Sprizzo Cafe in Waukesha, WI. The feeling of the live performance was thrilling and I was ready for more.
Since then, I have been performing live for 9 years as a singer/songwriter. A few of my accomplishments along the way were: performances at Summerfest, Wisconsin State Fair, and Waukesha County Fair, recording my first EP titled “Strong and Courageous” and releasing it onto all streaming platforms in 2019, and being nominated for the 2021 Shepherd Express Best of Milwaukee under Acoustic Musician and nominated for the 2022 Shepherd Express Best of Milwaukee under Acoustic Musician and Female Vocalist.
Can you talk to us about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
As a musician, there is always a goal to face and a challenge to overcome. One challenge would be the summer of 2020 when there was no live music.
During this time, I tried to stay positive and hosted weekly live-stream performances on Facebook and Instagram titled “Stand Strong Sessions.” During this live stream, I would highlight a local business and local musician and perform various original and cover songs.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am an acoustic singer/songwriter. I perform live in the Wisconsin area and really specialize in creating a connection with my audience. I love to engage and be interacting with those watching my performance. As a person, my overall goal is to inspire others to live out their passions. Something I am most proud of is being able to live out that goal with my audience and community.
One example of this is every summer I host a Musical Food Drive. This performance focuses on my hometown and I ask that instead of cash tips, attendees bring non-perishable food items to donate to the Waukesha Food Pantry. This upcoming summer with being the fourth consecutive year of The Musical Food Drive!
What makes you happy?
Connection with others is something that makes me happy.
When I am on stage or off stage, I am always excited to meet the people who listen to my stories and performance. In those moments, when others share their stories with me or relate to my songs, I am overjoyed! Being a live musician is truly thrilling and I am so happy to be able to live out my passion as well as inspire others to do the same!
