Rising Stars: Meet Catie St. Germain of Canada/MT Juliet Nashville

Today we’d like to introduce you to Catie St. Germain

Hi Catie , so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I grew up watching my grandfather and family perform. He was inducted into the Canadian country hall of fame as a proud metis artist and I spent my whole life around music. I was the youngest grandchild for a very long time and was very shy. I’d watch my family step on stage and nail every performance and I felt like it deterred me from feeling like I could ever be as good as them. I’d feel silly and insecure on stage and I quit writing songs by 15. I joined a cover band for a while but quit that to have a family as the hours weren’t great with kids. I ended up giving birth to my first son who has Down syndrome and through navigating that journey I realized I couldn’t tell my kids to not feel silly, “just try,” etc. if I didn’t show them first. So I started writing songs again.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It has not been smooth. Haha I’ve had to rewire my brain to do things scared and insecure. However whenever I do feel the self sabotage or doubt creep in I really do think of my kids and the example I’m showing them. Especially my oldest son Bash (short for Sebastien.)

I signed a bad “record deal” in 2023 and spent some time navigating and getting out of that which caused a lot of stress but also a lot of necessary learning. In the end I’m super grateful to be where and who I am now with my music!

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am a Canadian country singer/songwriter.

I’m most proud of the confidence I’ve gained through performing my own songs on stage and setting the example for my kids to just go for it!

Any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general?
Always find people smarter than you that are where you want to go/be.

If you’re the smartest in the room, you’re in the wrong room.
