Rising Stars: Meet Charles Moffet of Nashville

Today we’d like to introduce you to Charles Moffet.

Hi Charles, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I started in the Nashville DJ scene as a producer and audio engineer working for a company called Altru Creative which was closely tied to Full Circle Presents. As someone who has been deep into dance and electronic music culture for over a decade I started attending the events that the locals were putting on and got involved with the scene here. I started DJing at after parties and at The Office in East Nashville. When the Knyghts opened Night We Met I started DJing there and also played Deep Tropics festival twice. I have since started my own record label 2U Records, and founded The Underground Institute with Hotboxx, a DJ and production academy. Its been amazing seeing the scene grow here and spread its wings. We’ve thrown parties in Miami and we’re connecting with other scenes in Chicago and Detroit as well. It’s all about the people you meet along the way, and how you can help people realize their goals with respect and support from the community. That’s how cool shit happens.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
There’s always ups and downs. Throwing parties as a lifestyle has its own pitfalls, and I’ve know many DJs succumb to addiction and unhealthy choices. I’ve struggled with these things before and it’s something we need to bring awareness to and be able to support each other when we need help.

To be successful in the music industry you need to be consistent. The only people who don’t make it are the ones who quit.

Also, very small thing! Most people mispronounce my name haha. It’s confusing I know, its pronounced like are-hot, not art.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I’m a DJ and music producer. I’ve been trained in audio production at MTSU with a bachelors degree. My technical ability matched with my eclectic taste as a DJ sets me apart in my community. I’m known for my music production skills making house music that pushes the envelope of what that music can be in the scene in Nashville. Also I’m known for my DJ sets that create an atmosphere for whatever vibe I want to push. My sets are closer to storytelling through recorded music and will take you on a journey with sound.

Can you share something surprising about yourself?
I’m a big fan of art and industrial design. I’m a big aficionado of interior design, and specifically vintage chairs haha
