Today we’d like to introduce you to Cheley Tackett.
Hi Cheley, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I think I came into the world singing. When I was very young, under age 5, I would drag a Fender acoustic guitar out of the closet that my dad had bought for my mom and prop it up using the couch, as I was too small to hold it. I’d sing everything I could think of to an open strum, probably driving my parents a little crazy. As I grew big enough (around age 10) to hold the guitar, they put me into lessons. My guitar teacher quickly learned that I could sing and started teaching me to play guitar so that I could back myself up performing. I dabbled with songwriting in high school and delved further in through my college years. Shortly after college, I moved from Ohio to Nashville to start officially learning the craft of songwriting and performing at every open mic and stage that would have me.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I’m not so sure there is such a thing as a smooth road especially when the music industry is involved. There are 999 almosts for every 1 win. Aside from hard work and luck, tenacity is such a huge part of this journey.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I think first and foremost I’m a storyteller. My delivery method just happens to be through song. I think I’m primarily known for my ability to put words together in unique ways that serve to move the listener. I guess the same holds true for my performances. My ultimate goal is never the #1 on the charts or a million streams. My goal is always to write and perform that move the listener, and that can mean a myriad of things. Did it make you cry? Did it make you want to dance? Did it make you think or reflect on a memory that means something to you?
So, before we go, how can our readers or others connect or collaborate with you? How can they support you?
The best ways to support me as and independent musician are to come to any of my live shows, join my fan club through my website (cheleytackett.com), tune into my social media livestreams, and to share my music with other people.
