Today we’d like to introduce you to Credenda.
Hello Credenda, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstories with our readers.
Our story begins in Boise, Idaho where the lineup of the family harmony band Credenda was formed. The original lineup was comprised of Barbara Bruton, Daniel Bruton, Cat Bruton, and Anna Bruton. We cut our teeth playing the local scene from 2013-2017.
We attended our local songwriter’s association (Idaho Songwriters Association) for the first time in 2015 where we met Steve Eaton who was then president of the association. Steve had lived and worked in Nashville, TN in the late ‘70s as a singer-songwriter, getting cuts with such iconic groups as The Carpenters and The Righteous Brothers. He encouraged us to check out Nashville as he thought it would be a perfect fit for our band. We finally made the first trip to check out Nashville in May 2017, spending two months in TN…..that’s a whole book’s worth of stories in and of itself!
We made the big move to TN in December 2017. Since then a lot of cool stuff has happened for us, including recording our first EP with Grammy-nominated, 2x Dove Award-winning songwriter Kim McLean, playing a show with Mark Alan Cash at Storytellers Museum in Bon Aqua in 2021, being featured on 89.5 FM WMOT Roots Radio (The Local Brew) 4 times, and becoming hosts of singer-songwriter showcases 2-3 times a week at Copper Branch Vegan Restaurant in the heart of downtown Nashville.
The current lineup of the band is comprised of Barbara Bruton, Daniel Bruton, Anna Bruton, and Jonathan Bruton (percussionist, and songwriter).
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
For sure…we’ve had our fair share of challenges as an independent band.
The biggest one is funding. One common challenge with fully independent songwriters and bands is doing all the things that a label would normally do for you, including marketing, PR, and fundraising.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
We are a family vocal harmony band that specializes in 3 part harmony. We have been told by those in the music scene that our harmonies are the best in the local Nashville scene and that our songwriting is authentic, original, and genuine. We’ve also been told our choice of harmonies is wholly unique.
Honestly, the thing we’re most proud of is how we’ve stayed true to ourselves and how we promote new songwriters and bands in town. We encourage fans and musicians alike to check out our songwriter showcases at Copper Branch Vegan Restaurant in downtown Nashville every Wednesday, Saturday, and every 1st and 3rd Friday for a unique Nashville experience where some of the best talents Nashville has to offer are on display.
What makes you happy?
The thing that makes us the happiest is knowing our songs have touched people….and the thought of playing the Grand Ole Opry makes us happy too, lol!
