Hi Darnell, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
When I was, I would always make a funny video with my old iPhone 4, you know, the hockey puck-looking iPhone me and my friends I would do comedy skits of our everyday life of things people could relate to at our age at the time. When they stopped, I just kept going to videos was always a passion of mine. Instagram was starting to blow up, so I felt like it was my time to shine once they added video content to Instagram, I took my talents from Facebook to Instagram, and I loved it. Instagram uplifted my craft to where I could do unfiltered content without parents seeing them, so I was free and took it to the next level.
We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Vine had come out, but it didn’t last long. At that time, Instagram only had a 15-second video length, and I was running out of ideas. With me being put out on my own and having to make a living at a young age with no guidance in life, I would say my road was tough; first, I left the videos alone because they weren’t doing as good as I wanted them to, so I chilled for a good 2 years making no content at all. I didn’t have a phone for the longest because the one I had broken, and I could afford another one, so it was tough. I was sleeping couch to couch intel; my brother gave me a helping hand by letting me stay at his house till I got on my feet, and that’s when my life started to move positively.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am a full-time content creator on Tik Tok. I have a bachelor’s in criminal justice with a minor in prelaw. Once my brother let me stay with him, I was able to get back to school and turn my life around. I had done a lot of sides hustles like work on cars and house in between those time in college, which helped financially and schedule-wise because I was my boss and I and make me on price and work when I wanted to, so it didn’t get in the way of my school. I am known by TikTok being the dog guy. I have a dog named bando, and we are viral on TikTok with over 2.2 million followers and counting. I’m proud I got my degree and could perfect my craft in comedy. What sets me apart from others is my optimism and confidence. I don’t care what people think about me and go for what I want in life and not let any roadblocks stop me.
What quality or characteristic do you feel is most important to your success?
Being yourself and doing what you love, not what other people think you should do or be, make sure your happiness is first, and you keep god in your life to help you grow in the right direction
