Rising Stars: Meet Darren Bland

Today we’d like to introduce you to Darren Bland.

Hi Darren, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstories with our readers.
I started music as a child. I should say started writing poetry as a child. So I always had the gift of wordplay and rhyme. I always loved telling a story creatively.

My mother is from Florida and my Father is from the east coast so I have a cultured background and I have been traveling my whole life…therefore I was always able to identify with people and their stories as well. I’ve always loved music so as I got older I was a dope freestyler. So I started recording freestyles and I always got good responses. A few years ago I started to take music seriously and it has been a blessing to this day for the opportunities and business I have built to this day.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
It has not been a smooth road lol.

It has really been a learning experience because I am independent. So you learn along the way. As far as where to spend money how to spend money and who to spend it with. I invest a lot of my own money so you take some losses as far as traveling hotels gas food paying to open for big-name artists…but as long as u learn from it everything works out. There are a lot of scammers out there who just want your money… there are all kinds of struggles in the music industry.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
Well, I’m a music artist and entrepreneur. I sing and rap. I write for other artists. I direct and produce music videos.

Write music video storyboards for artists. I work with clothing lines as far as creating designs for merchandise. I am most proud of creating real tangible products from ideas whether that be music or videos or apparel. What sets me apart from others I believe is my drive passion and work ethic. My ability to sing and rap. The desire to win and push the creative limits and not stay inside of a box.

Do you have any advice for those looking to network or find a mentor?
Yes! Find someone who is or has done what u want to do and has been successful at it. What has worked for me is asking questions and having a genuine conversations with people in the industry and listening more than I talk.

Being a sponge has gone a long way and has worked for me for sure!
