Today we’d like to introduce you to Daylan Langford.
Hi Daylan, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I began my journey with a passion to build items that are #1 Useful & #2 Timeless. In my youth, I envisioned this solely as working with wood furniture. Later on, as I began working at a custom sign shop, it was during this time I had the realization that I could take my design desires and capabilities way beyond the world of furniture. While working for 17 years in the commercial sign industry, producing projects that have had a visual impact on the entire community at large. To say the least, this was very rewarding. So, I decided I needed to start my own business to focus on what drives my passion. Daylan’s Designs is the company name; “Custom Everything” is our motto.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
To start up a business, I think the common struggle is dealing with the local and federal government regulations. Licenses, permits, insurance requirements, Land use restrictions on and on and on you name it we’ve dealt with it. I mean, I can write you a sad country song we’ve had blown engines stolen drones,Flat tires flipped over machinery flooded out job sites stolen material my God, man we’ve seen a lot of bad days. But we’ve had a lot more victorious days.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I specialize in working with engineering / landscape architect teams, real estate investors, development teams, and national builder’s- producing subdivision entrance signage and custom aesthetics.
I am known for Turn-Key Design, Permit, Build process focused on natural stone material, metal fabrication, oversized natural wood beams.
We combine a multiple disciplinary approach to all of our projects. We don’t just play “a part’’ we envision and breathe life into the product. From conception through the administrative levels of design approval to the local municipalities permitting all the way to setting that last stone in place, we see it through start to finish.
What matters most to you?
As much as I love what we do for a living. My family matters most to me. They are why I work as hard as I do- to set a good example. To build a lasting legacy they can see and touch not just hear about when I am gone.
