Rising Stars: Meet Dominique DeMaree

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dominique DeMaree.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I have always loved art; like I was the kid with the all-sand art and art supplies you could think of. As I grew, I learned to cook and found joy in feeding other people. I loved seeing the smiles on my friends & family’s face when I made something new. I also wanted to be as close to my dad as possible and I felt like I got the art bug just like he had. He passed when I was 5 and growing up art made me feel connected to him in a way. I was his little Doodle Bug. So, combining what I loved Doodlez Desserts was created. It’s been 10 years since I took pictures of my 1st cake and oh boy have, I come a long way. I take much pride in my icing recipes. The buttercream is even perfect for the non-icing lover like myself. There is no better feeling than watching someone’s eyes light up when they see their cake and then again when they take their first bite. Because I make custom cakes and treats designed especially for your occasion. They look great and taste even better!

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The road has been very rocky. I’m a single mom of five now. Another reason why I love what I do. I have the freedom and flexibility to watch my kids grow up but working everyone’s schedule gets tight.

And with that is great sacrifice. A lot of sleepless nights, late nights, early mornings, cat naps in parking lots, and lots and lots of caffeine.

I lost out on money in the beginning just not knowing my worth by way underpricing and wanting to be affordable for everyone.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’m not sure it’s an official term, but I call myself a Cake Artist. I do treats also, but over the years people keep coming back for the custom cakes.

I specialize is creating whatever you like in cake/treat form. You want it; ill make it.

I’m most proud of when my kids come home and tell me they googled me for someone. They love that their moms on google and it melts my heart & gives me that warm cookie feeling.

What sets us apart from other is the love I put into each and every item that goes out the door. I truly believe you can taste the difference. Of course, I have to make money I have a family, but I truly love seeing people happy through my food.

We’d love to hear about how you think about risk-taking?
I’m a huge risk taker but I knew I had a fallback. I lived with my mom the past 4 years I just moved out 2021 and it’s still a struggle. But I’ve had part-time jobs the past 6 years and just been working my business. I quit my 9-5 six years ago.
