Rising Stars: Meet Drew Middleton of East Nashville

Today we’d like to introduce you to Drew Middleton.

Drew, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Thanks so much for having me! I guess to start out, I have a bachelors degree in music from Palm Beach Atlantic University. I moved to Nashville in 2010 for a full time position doing music at a church. Nashville Music Factory initially started under the name Nashville Demo Factory in 2015. The idea was to provide music production mostly for songwriters and lyricists. I noticed that there was a big market for lyricists who needed help turning their lyrics into a fully fleshed out song so they could pitch it to publishers for label consideration. With my strengths in songwriting, as well as a knack for music production, I thought I could share my talent as a small side hustle. To my surprise, my humble little side hustle quickly blossomed into a business.

That’s when I decided to invest into a more professional looking website and diversify my production portfolio. Within 5 years I started gaining artists as clients wanting to release singles or albums, so it felt more appropriate to change the name to Nashville Music Factory so I wouldn’t limit the service brand to just demos. I’m currently producing genres like country, rock, pop, CCM, and folk/Americana, and just about everything in between. To date, I have produced over 1,500 songs and sending mixes/masters all over the US as well as to other countries like Australia, Uk, Switzerland, Ireland, Canada, and more. I utilize local musicians and singers and enjoy working from home in my humble detached studio. I’m so thankful that I get to do what I do.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I’d say in general it’s been a smooth road. Working as a sole proprietor/contractor affords me the opportunity to work in the way that is best for me and my family. The only frustrating part of this business is when I’ve been ghosted by clients halfway through a project for various reasons that were beyond my control.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I’m your quintessential Nashville music producer with a studio at his house. An average day for me is responding to emails, producing music from scratch and making sure all the administration details like payments, deadlines, and contractual agreements are signed. What sets me apart from most other producers is that I’m a multi-instrumentalist (drums, bass guitar, acoustic guitar, electric guitar, keys, and other random stuff) and a professional singer, so 80% of the projects I work on tend to be mostly me. As a producer I enjoy chasing after new sounds, and seeing my clients excited about turning their vision into a reality. Often times it’s my voice on the demo songs either as the lead singer or background vocals. I’ve been able to work with Indie artists, published songwriters, and indie labels like DeadRock Records and Silverado Records.

What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
What I like best about Nashville is the crazy amount of musical/creative talent we have. What I like least is the traffic 🙁
