Rising Stars: Meet Elaini Arthur

Today we’d like to introduce you to Elaini Arthur.

Hi Elaini, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start, maybe you can share some of your backstories with our readers.
I started singing at a very young age. I don’t remember not singing. I sang in my school talent show when I was four years old, but when I was five and heard a Patsy Cline song, I knew what I wanted to do. I had spotted a cd in the store and wanted it for some reason. My grandma bought it for me – that cd was Patsy Cline. I had never heard of her before, but I was hooked after hearing the first song. There is just something in her voice that has stayed with me all these years. I have had a lot of opportunities. And I have been blessed with the many friends that have come into my life through music. They have encouraged, supported, and taught me along the way.

I also started songwriting when I was five. I would sing words, and my mom would write them down. It took a while to realize that, put together, those words were songs. Over the years, I have learned a lot from friends who are songwriters. They have co-written with me on many songs. I am honored to have my song “Every Moment” nominated for the 2022 Josie Music Awards. I play guitar and other instruments as well.

Two very important people in my life have passed, and I will carry them with me throughout this journey. I met Joltin’ Jim McCoy while singing at a Patsy Cline event. He took me under his wing and became not only a mentor but one of the best friends that you could have by your side. Jim McCoy is best known for letting Patsy Cline sing on his WINC radio show when she was only 14. I sang on his stage at the Troubadour quite a lot. There, I learned to play with the bands, connect with the audience, and just have fun doing what I do. He always said, “it comes from the heart.” Dennie Huber hosted a local talent contest in our home area to encourage kids to follow their dreams. I entered that contest when I was five years old and every year after until I was 13. I was still involved with the contest ( CrazyFest) but as a judge. I also went on to share the stage with Dennie at many events. Both Jim and Dennie guided me in my musical journey and will always be an inspiration to me. My family and I made many trips to Nashville over the years. I met so many great friends there. They are true performers, and working with them taught me so much. They took time for me, gave me advice, and stuck by me. They still do. And I could not have done everything I have done without the support of my family. My grandmother even made my stage outfits when I was little. I guess the saying is true – it takes a village. I am blessed to have you all in my life.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Like most things in life, there are always bumps. But it hasn’t been too bad so far. I have had a lot of help along the way and still do. I think probably the most difficult part is the financial end. There were times when we cut back on things or picked up extra work hours to be able to make a trip, but it was all worth it in the end. My mom homeschooled me from 4th grade to graduation. It made it easier to trips and keep my grades up while still having time to pursue my music. I also had online teachers for my schooling, and they even let me turn some of my writing assignments into songs – that is how I wrote “America Dreams.”

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I think I am most known for singing Patsy Cline. I love the traditional country. That is the style that I try to incorporate into my songwriting. I have my style, but not sure what I would call it. I am myself.

Any big plans?
I want to continue to make new music that will touch others. Something to look forward to being invited to sing on the Grand Ole Opry – maybe someday- fingers crossed!
