Today we’d like to introduce you to Elisa Nicole.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I’ve been in the industry since I was 19. My passion for beauty started as young as five. I grew up dancing and performing. The makeup, hair. and costumes were always my favorite part. Shortly after starting my journey at Paul Mitchell the School Memphis, I learned I wanted to be a part of every aspect that the beauty industry had to offer. This then prompted my move to Nashville, Tennessee. Once I arrived, my journey was anything but easy. I fought super hard to finish school a second time while establishing myself in the local beauty scene. After a few years of working multiple freelance jobs and being full-time in the spa, I decided to make the plunge and open my own boutique spa. Although I was thrilled, I had no idea the road ahead or what was to come. That chapter ended when I realized my heart was into running something a little more creative. I found photography. Photography and concept design became the perfect outlet. Combing all things beauty and creative, I spend my days creating beauty thru images and video.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
This has been anything but a smooth road. After dealing with the dramas relocating brings, dealing with discrimination in my profession was equally as hard. If not harder. Anything from race, orientation, to gender. There was struggle. You wouldn’t think in the beauty and photography industry these would be issues you have to deal with. But unfortunately it is/was.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I’m a Jane of all trades. I’m a medical esthetician by day. (I can never leave the spa) By night in a creative bad-ass. (kidding) I also glam, concept design/creative direct for boudoir photography. I does get challenging at times juggling so many things. However, I wouldn’t have it any other way. My entire career people have tried to fit me in a box and make me pick a “speciality”. My response, my specialty is beauty. I’m known for working on any and everything when it comes to my speciality.
Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
I have always had the kind of luck that you get back what you put out. So, when I was at my best and sharpest, taking care of myself, my mental health, my business, everything would flourish. Whenever I would fall off track and lose tunnel vision if you will, everything would fall with it. I know it sounds cliche, but you really do get back what you put out. You get it with words, work, actions, etc…
