Rising Stars: Meet Erin Palmer

Today we’d like to introduce you to Erin Palmer.

Hi Erin, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
My love for photography began in my high school art class. Then, I took a photography class in college where I really learned the basics of how cameras work. I got lots of practice after I graduated, when I went to teach English in Laos. I had the honor of taking pictures at so many beautiful and interesting places: waterfalls, temples, rainforests, beaches. Taking pictures of my new Lao friends was also a joy. When I returned to the states, I continued photography as a hobby. After my daughter was born, I had a whole new reason to get excited about photography. Then, once the pandemic hit and I had my son, I decided to start taking my photography more seriously. I’ve loved taking pictures of family and friends this past year as I began my business. What is even more exciting, is photographing people that I didn’t have a connection to. I’ve loved meeting new clients this year. Every time I leave a shoot, I’ve felt so much joy.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Starting a business of any kind definitely comes with challenges. Photography as a business is drastically different than photography as a hobby. There’s been a big learning curve when it comes to creating contracts, doing taxes, setting up a professional website, etc.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I specialize in family photography. I do have a 3 year old and 1 year old, so I get a lot of practice with little ones! They don’t also want to participate, but I’ve got a few tricks up my sleeve to help sessions go more smoothly!

Clients have also appreciated having someone that puts them at ease. Photos can be stressful for some people, so having a positive, calm demeanor has been helpful.

Alright so before we go can you talk to us a bit about how people can work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
It’s easiest to reach me through my website: www.erinpalmerphotography.com/contact/

I also have a Facebook page and Instagram account. @erin.palmer.photography

The best way to support my business is booking a session, sharing with a friend, or leaving an encouraging comment on social media.
