Today we’d like to introduce you to Faith Diggs.
Hi Faith, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
From Playwright to Media Entrepreneur: The Creative Journey of Faith Diggs
My creative journey began long before I ever called myself a filmmaker, television producer, or media entrepreneur. In many ways, I began as a playwright.
As a child, I expressed myself through writing, poetry, music, and visual storytelling. Whenever I wanted to communicate something to my parents, I would create. If I was upset, afraid, excited, or simply had something on my heart, I would write a play, a song, or a poem. Creating became my natural way of expressing what I felt and what I imagined.
That gift continued to develop through my church, where I began writing plays, songs, and poetry. My church recognized my ability to communicate through storytelling and encouraged my creativity.
One of my early major productions was the Gospel stage play “Where Are You God?”, which I produced at Oak Park and River Forest High School in the Chicago area. Approximately 500 people attended the production.
I also produced a three-song soundtrack for the play at Chicago Recording Studio and wrote ten additional songs for the production. The soundtrack included “Pastor’s Wife,” “Is It God’s Plan,” and “Hallelujah to the Lamb of God.” The song “Pastor’s Wife” was eventually played on WGCI radio by radio personality Effie Rolfe.
From there, my creativity continued to expand. I produced a one-woman stage play and monologue titled “Evil’s Knockin’,” which was performed at the Fine Arts Theater in downtown Chicago. The production told the story of a young woman whose promiscuous lifestyle ultimately led to her contracting AIDS.
I eventually began writing and producing R&B music as well, including songs such as “Covenant,” “Delicious Love,” “Yeah Man,” and “Love Don’t Cheat.” I also produced music videos for “Covenant” and “Delicious Love.”
But I knew there was another medium calling me: film and television.
I wrote, directed, and produced my first feature film, “Abused Authority.” An unexpected opportunity helped introduce my work to an even larger audience. While I was sitting in a beauty salon getting my hair done, radio personality Daryl King played my movie. That exposure eventually led the film to the attention of the Editor-in-Chief of Grace Today Magazine.
In 2008, I was featured in Grace Today Magazine in its “Women Making a Difference” feature. Michelle Obama was on the cover of that particular issue, and I was honored to be featured alongside her and three other women.
I continued developing my skills as a writer, director, and producer. I wrote, directed, and produced the short film “Rejected Seed,” which I submitted to the BET Movie Competition.
Then came another major chapter in my television journey: “Casting Call.”
I created and produced the 12-episode reality television show “Casting Call,” a competition series in which actors competed for an opportunity to earn a role in my movie, “Steps of a Mastermind.”
The first broadcast of Casting Call aired in 2013 on CAN TV. I later presented a new set of 13 episodes on YouTube, expanding the show’s reach to a digital audience. In 2022, Casting Call was also broadcast through ENVIO TV, my own Roku channel.
Creating Casting Call allowed me to combine several things I loved: television production, storytelling, developing talent, creating opportunities for actors, and building an audience around original content. It was another step in establishing myself not simply as a filmmaker, but as a media producer who could develop and present original programming.
In 2022, I wrote, directed, and produced the feature film “Steps of a Mastermind,” the film that had inspired the acting competition concept behind Casting Call.
But my vision was becoming bigger than film and television alone.
I had always loved fashion and wanted to create opportunities to showcase models and designers. In 2021, I founded Progue Fashion, which was incorporated in 2023.
In 2023, Progue Fashion traveled to Miami and produced “Passion for Fashion,” a fashion show featuring models and a production crew. I went on to produce two additional fashion shows in Chicago. One of those productions was filmed by a camera operator known for working with Lori Harvey and Steve Harvey.
After producing those fashion shows, I saw an opportunity to take fashion coverage beyond the runway. In 2024, I launched Progue Fashion International Digital Magazine, creating another platform through which I could showcase models, designers, fashion events, and visual storytelling.
Since then, my work has continued to expand internationally.
Through Progue Media and Progue Fashion, I have covered major events and traveled to cities including London, Los Angeles, Atlanta, and New York. In 2026, I covered the Chicago House Music Festival, the Barbara Bates 40th Year Anniversary Fashion Celebration, and traveled to New York Fashion Week to cover Art Hearts Fashion.
My coverage of Barbara Bates’ 40th Anniversary celebration brought together many of the elements that have defined my career: fashion, storytelling, media, photography, video, history, and the celebration of creative talent. One of the models who walked in Barbara Bates’ 40th Anniversary fashion show was also featured on the cover of Progue Fashion International Digital Magazine.
Today, my work continues under Progue Media, Inc., where I am building a multimedia company designed to bring together the different worlds I have spent decades exploring — film, television, fashion, music, digital media, events, travel, and storytelling.
When I look back, I can see that the path was never really a collection of separate careers.
It was one journey.
The little girl who wrote plays to express herself became a playwright. The playwright became a songwriter. The songwriter became a filmmaker. The filmmaker became a television producer. The television producer created a reality competition series to develop actors. The producer became a fashion entrepreneur and digital magazine publisher. And today, that same storyteller is building a multimedia company through Progue Media.
The platforms have changed, but the gift has remained the same.
I have always been a storyteller.
And I believe I am still only beginning to tell the story.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
No, it has definitely not been a smooth road.
Initially, my goal was to have major television networks produce my screenplays and treatments. I quickly learned, however, that the entertainment industry is highly saturated and extremely challenging to break into. Getting consistent radio airplay was also difficult, and breaking into the film and television industry through mainstream media presented its own set of challenges.
Rather than allowing those obstacles to stop me, they made me more determined to create my own road to success.
I submitted my work to film festivals and paid entry fees, only to find that I was not selected. Over time, I realized how costly that process could become. After waiting weeks or months to hear whether my work had been selected, I would often receive a very kind, “No.” Eventually, I realized that I could continue waiting for someone else to open a door, or I could start building my own doors.
So, I decided to produce my own content.
One of the major obstacles I encountered came after I had a very knowledgeable friend create my own television app for Roku and Firestick. I was excited about having my own platform for distributing my content, but then I discovered that Vimeo had discontinued support for individual apps streaming to Roku. What I thought was going to be a major opportunity suddenly became a major setback.
But that setback taught me something important: I couldn’t allow changes in the industry to determine the direction of my vision.
In 2024, I experienced another difficult moment. After producing one of my Chicago fashion shows, I was disappointed with how the footage turned out. I began seriously considering putting everything aside and pursuing a completely different path.
But something within me would not let me quit.
I had already been thinking about creating Progue Fashion International Digital Magazine, but I had hesitated. Eventually, I decided to pursue the idea—and it turned out to be one of the best decisions I have ever made.
Since launching the magazine, I have accomplished more than I could have imagined at that point in my journey. I have had the opportunity to feature and cover major events, talented models, designers, entertainers, and influential people. What started as an idea became a legitimate media platform, and it has also become one of my greatest sources of income, generating more revenue for me than many of my other business ventures.
That success gave me even greater clarity about where I was headed.
I eventually established Progue Media, Inc. as the parent company, with a vision of building a multimedia conglomerate that brings together the different areas of media, entertainment, fashion, music, travel, real estate, news, and digital content.
Looking back, I realize that many of the things I considered setbacks were actually redirecting me.
The doors that didn’t open forced me to build my own doors. The opportunities that didn’t happen forced me to create new opportunities. The platforms that disappeared forced me to think differently about distribution. And the projects that didn’t turn out the way I envisioned forced me to find another way forward.
So, no—the road has not been smooth.
But every obstacle has taught me something, strengthened me, and pushed me closer to the vision I have today.
I feel blessed to be a multimedia visionary, and I believe God has been leading this journey every step of the way.
I may not know exactly where every road will lead, but I know I am building something—and I intend to keep building.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am the Owner and CEO of Progue Media, Inc., a multimedia company built around my passion for storytelling, creativity, entertainment, and entrepreneurship. My journey has taken me through several areas of the industry, including playwriting, songwriting, filmmaking, television production, fashion, and digital publishing. Although my work spans multiple industries, storytelling has always been at the heart of everything I do.
I specialize in developing creative concepts, producing original content, covering live events, and creating platforms that bring talented people, brands, and stories to audiences. My background includes writing, directing, and producing films; creating the reality television series Casting Call, where actors competed for roles in my film Steps of a Mastermind; producing music and music videos; and developing fashion shows and digital magazine content.
Today, one of my primary focuses is Progue Fashion International Digital Magazine, which I launched in 2024. Through the magazine and Progue Media, I cover fashion events, showcase models and designers, and create multimedia content that celebrates creativity and talent. My coverage has included the Barbara Bates 40th Anniversary Fashion Celebration, the Chicago House Music Festival, and Art Hearts Fashion during New York Fashion Week in 2026. I have also traveled to cities including London, Los Angeles, Atlanta, Miami, and New York in pursuit of creative and media opportunities.
What sets me apart is that I don’t limit myself to one area of the entertainment industry, and I don’t believe I have to wait for traditional media outlets to give me permission to bring my ideas to life. When doors did not open, I learned to create my own opportunities. When I encountered challenges with traditional distribution and television platforms, I continued exploring new ways to present and share content. That mindset helped lead me to digital publishing and ultimately to the establishment of Progue Media, Inc. as the parent company for my expanding media vision.
I also look at opportunities differently. I see the potential to connect fashion with film, music with travel, entertainment with digital publishing, and creative talent with new audiences. My goal is not simply to cover an event and move on. I want to create lasting media assets, build meaningful relationships, develop sponsorship opportunities, and establish platforms that can continue to grow beyond a single production.
What I am most proud of is my perseverance and my willingness to keep creating, even when the journey has been difficult. I have continued to develop my ideas, produce my own projects, and build a business around my vision. Seeing an idea evolve from a thought into a production, a digital magazine, or an expanding media company is incredibly rewarding. I am also proud of the opportunities I create to showcase other people’s talents and stories.
My long-term vision is to build Progue Media into a recognized multimedia company that connects entertainment, fashion, music, travel, culture, and other creative industries through innovative content and strategic partnerships. We think outside the box because I believe the possibilities for storytelling and media distribution extend far beyond traditional formats.
Ultimately, I consider myself a storyteller, a builder, and a visionary. My journey began with writing plays as a child, and it has evolved into building a multimedia company. The platforms may change, but the purpose remains the same: to bring ideas to life, tell compelling stories, showcase talent, and create opportunities. I feel blessed to be on this journey, and my faith continues to guide me as I build what I believe Progue Media can become.
Do you have recommendations for books, apps, blogs, etc?
The greatest source of guidance in my life is my Christian faith. I believe God’s Word provides the wisdom, direction, and foundation I need, both personally and professionally. I rely on my faith to guide my decisions, strengthen me through challenges, and remind me to keep moving forward even when the road ahead is uncertain.
Although I don’t spend a great deal of time reading business books or listening to podcasts, there is one book I remember being particularly inspired by approximately 14 years ago: How They Started. What stood out to me was not simply how successful businesses began, but the stories behind their journeys. I remember learning about the setbacks founders encountered, the decisions they made—some good and some bad—and how those experiences became part of their paths to success.
That perspective resonated with me because it showed that building a business is rarely a perfect or predictable journey. There are obstacles, mistakes, unexpected changes, and difficult choices along the way. Success is not always about getting everything right; sometimes, it is about learning from what didn’t work, making adjustments, and having the courage to keep going.
I see that reflected in my own journey. From writing plays and producing films and television to creating fashion shows, launching Progue Fashion International Digital Magazine, and establishing Progue Media, Inc., I have experienced my own setbacks and turning points. Some challenges forced me to change direction, while others led me to opportunities I might never have pursued otherwise.
For example, when traditional paths into film and television proved difficult, I began creating my own opportunities. When I encountered challenges with distribution platforms, I continued exploring new ways to share my work. And when I questioned whether I should continue after a disappointing production experience, I ultimately moved forward with the digital magazine that has become one of my most rewarding business ventures.
Looking back, I realize that inspiration can come from many places, but my faith remains my primary source of guidance. I believe God has given me the creativity, vision, and determination to pursue the ideas He has placed in my heart. My responsibility is to keep learning, keep creating, and be willing to take the next step, even when I cannot see the entire path ahead.
For me, doing my best in life is not about following every trend or relying on a particular book, podcast, or formula for success. It is about staying grounded in my faith, learning from life’s experiences, remaining open to opportunities, and having the courage to turn a vision into something tangible.
