Rising Stars: Meet Faith Hopkins of 12 South

Today we’d like to introduce you to Faith Hopkins.

Hi Faith, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today.
I have been singing ever since I was a little girl. When I was young, I participated in talent shows and recitals whenever I could. I am from a little beach town in California called Huntington Beach, and I attended Huntington Beach High School. Luckily, Huntington High specialized In Performing Arts, and my passion for music only grew from there. When it was time for college, I decided to travel 3,000 miles away from home to live in a city I had once visited and attend a college that I knew little to nothing about, but it felt right. Belmont showed me that I could chase a crazy dream without making it seem so crazy. I began meeting some amazing people and started songwriting as a freshman, which never stopped. Nashville molded me into a songwriter, an artist, a student, a friend, a waitress, a nanny, a creator, a Christian, a graduate, a listener, and a performer. I continue to grow in each of these titles daily. Ever since my first day here, I have been writing nonstop, curating myself as an artist, and discovering my sound. On July 22, 2022, I released my first song titled Back in the Game under my artist name, Faith Ashley Hopkins, on all platforms. I also just played my first show at the East Room and am excited to continue releasing music, performing, and expanding my team and platform. I plan on releasing my next single, Am I The Only One, in September and have been working with some incredibly talented people to tell my stories and to share them in a way that is genuine to who I am.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
This career I chose to pursue is anything but easy. I face obstacles daily. Mental and physical obstacles. Mentally this career is challenging given that social media plays a huge part in whether one “makes it.” The constant comparison of myself to others is degrading at times, and it is beyond a challenge to push through that and to remind myself that everyone is on their timeline. Some physical obstacles include not having an established team to help guide me and advise me. Also, TikTok has been an obstacle of mine recently, in the sense that I can not figure out how to break through the app. It seems that these days the only way to get the attention of the industry is through having a following on TikTok. I am learning to find a healthy balance between maintaining a strong mindset and sense of self while trying to put myself out there and be vulnerable through my music and posts.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am a singer/songwriter/pop artist. Being a pop artist in Nashville, I believe, is a special and unique thing as it is. Songwriting in Nashville is an art and craftsmanship and values storytelling compared to songwriting in other cities. I am proud of this art and storytelling aspect that shines through in my music. My music is vibrant, authentic, and relatable. Yet I am most proud of who I am as an artist. When I was younger, I always looked up to more women in country music than pop music because the songwriting in the country was a story. These women seemed confident, genuine, naturally beautiful, could talk about their faith openly, and appearances were sexy yet classy. They were my role models. I am a pop artist who strives to emulate all of these qualities, and my goal is to be a role model for young women today. I am unique because I am relatable and genuinely optimistic, while many young artists today focus on deep sadness and anxiety. It seems to be a trend in our day and age to be sad, and while at times I may feel these ways, I choose to always focus my energy on happiness and positivity. I feel that my feelings and values translate through my music, and I think that is rare to find nowadays.

What are your plans for the future?
My plans for the future are to continue to release music every 2-3 months and play many shows as I can in between. My music video for my most recent single, “Back in the Game,” comes out next week, which I am also looking forward to! Also, I am releasing a single titled “Am I the Only One” in September, which I wrote with a band called Nightly, and they also produced it. I am excited to continue this journey and hope to expand and grow my business as an artist.
