Rising Stars: Meet Grace Patrick and Cadence Hinnant

Today we’d like to introduce you to Grace Patrick and Cadence Hinnant.

Hi Grace & Cadence, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
We’ve always had a passion for playing and organizing shows; when we both came to Nashville, we saw that the college rock scene was thriving but lacked a connection to the broader Nashville scene. Both of us moved to Nashville from in August of 2020 with a passion for music, community, and business. By the end of the year, each of us had joined a band and started getting out into the scene as it healed from the pandemic. Though we often crossed paths, the two of us did not officially partner up until December of 2021 when Cadence suggested he had a “business proposition.” From there, we started Drop Tuned Entertainment— a booking company aimed at combining the best aspects of Nashville’s historic rock scene with local universities’ heaviest bands.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
As was the experience for most in the last two years, the pandemic greatly impacted and hindered our abilities to hit the ground running when we started school in the fall of 2020. However, that didn’t stop us from making every effort to take the stage in 2021. As for Drop Tuned Entertainment, getting venues to trust a pair of teenagers to book large shows has not been an easy task. With the little booking experience, we had prior to moving to Nashville, the learning curve we had to face was steep but rewarding.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
For starters, both of us are in bands so we understand what venues want from a business perspective and what artists want from a creator’s perspective. Drop Tuned Entertainment specializes in hard rock music around Nashville which is an often-overlooked genre in the country’s capital. We book shows with both college bands and groups from the broader scene to encourage collaboration and a more cohesive community. From the scope of the university, we are both well-known and have personalities that blend well with each other and the greater student body. We go to as many local shows as possible, talk to anyone and everyone, and build lasting relationships with those around us. Our charisma and interesting personalities make us magnetic and an attractive crew to anyone in the music scene. We have also successfully put on our first music festival: Sounds From Underground. On March 27th we showcased eight hard rock/metal bands at the Exit/In. It was incredibly successful and is definitely a good launching point for Drop Tuned Entertainment.

What sort of changes are you expecting over the next 5-10 years?
We believe there will be an increase in independent booking companies as reaching out to venues becomes more streamlined through social media and the internet. Our long-term goals for this personal project is to have a venue that we can call our own and hopefully continue our mission on our own stage.
