Hi Greylee, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
as long as i can remember, i have been in love with words. The way people craft their words into colorful motifs to sea their joy and their pain has always drawn me in. It’s my dream to be a professional wordsmith. Songwriting for me has been an outlet to craft my words for as long as i can remember. My dad is a producer here in nashville so i had the rare opportunity to watch people create things for as long as i can remember. it’s a process that i became addicted to. There’s a certain feeling i’ve become familiar with which is the, almost supernatural, downloading of my information that feels out of your control. it almost feels more like discovering something than creating it – like whether or not i wrote it down, it exists somewhere already. i hope to chase that feeling for as long as i live.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
this road has been anything but smooth. in fact i think some of what being any kind of artist is – is to submit to the rockiness. i have a theory that to be a truly wonderful artist you have to have gone somewhat insane. i met some of the most talented people on the planet in the psych ward – did you know that to feel things so incredibly deeply, and to describe those feelings is one of the most painful things you can do? It is the crazy ones who carve through to the places untouched by normalcy – it is the broken ones who can accurately describe the experience of being alive. I am so grateful that my path has been rocky as hell – i’m not interested in writing things that feel comfortable these days.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a singer songwriter born and braised in nashville tennessee, which i’m told more and more is a shocking thing to be. The longer i’m alive, the more i feel that my creativity may not be contained to one medium. I can’t help but become intrigued with almost every kind of art – but music is the love of my life. i am not an expert by any means – i always feel like when someone asks who my favorite musicians are, they will probably be let down by my answers. i am not well versed in music theory or even in the “art of writing” but i find myself compelled to do it anyway. whether is melodies or lyrics or rhythms or sonics, i am completely sold out for the feeling of discovering what a song will become – not to mention i sing most of the time. anytime I’m scared i sing uncontrollably – i remember getting caught in a hailstorm and essentially writing a full musical about it in the car.
