Today we’d like to introduce you to Huck Johns.
Hi Huck, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Thank you so much for reaching out!
I have always added my own style, flair, and shape, finding that unique vintage or relic hat. One hat particularly has always caught the attention of most. A refurbished 10x beaver custom “open road style” that was given to me almost new but reshaped and aged by me.
I added feathers from my many American adventures and even a raccoon pecker bone, (lol, If ya know ya know! ) along with an Apache arrowhead given to me and my son by an old trail boss in Arizona. This one hat has always been a topic of conversation and although there were many backstage or barroom offers to buy it I would never sell it.
Huck Johns has surely lived the life of a Rockstar. www.huckoff.com. Born and raised on Rock & Roll in Detroit Michigan and has spent the last 20 years living in Los Angeles, California recording and releasing Major label music, touring the United States and beyond having shared booze, laughs, parties, stories, songwriting, recordings, studios and stages with some of Rock and Country’s greatest and most honored artists all before smartphones and Twitter rocks.
Huck when off tour continues to grow artistically creating many pieces of Artwork and products while he was attending the renowned OTIS school of Art and product design in Los Angeles. Huck’s hats have seen all 50 states and weathered many a storm. Soon after relocating his family to Nashville in 2021 post-pandemic, it seemed like a good time for Huck to share his creativity and history with others, and decided that maybe it was time to jump into the hat game for real and toss his creative energy into the pile of many great hat makers of the world.
Teaming up with Nashville and Los Angeles vendors Huck is now busier than ever at his Farm Studio making signature HUCKHATS. Making YOUR hat special and individual for YOU is Huck’s goal. Recently Huck displayed his hats at The Franklin Tennessee “Main Street Festival.” Huck nearly sold out of all his custom made individually designed hats and had special guests who dropped in like Jake Kiszka from the Rock band Gretta Van Fleet! The response has been truly overwhelming!
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Taking art classes in my spare time when not in a studio. Couch surfed a lot. I hustled many sales jobs and did a lot of studio work and pro bono artwork trying to get into a nitch that would showcase all my talents. After a long road in the music business and all of the highs and lows.. I decided to pursue ALL my dreams not just music related. That’s when my vision widened, and I started creating more individual Art pieces to showcase.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
As a recording artist in Los Angeles and have worked with some of the greatest talents in the world. www.huckjohns.com
I released two major records and have songs in films and on TV.
I also recently flew to L.A. to act in a feature film called “The Road to Terzetto” and was able to wear a hat on camera that I created.
I am working on getting a HUCKHAT storefront here in Nashville!
I am excited to see what the future holds!
Before we let you go, we’ve got to ask if you have any advice for those who are just starting out?
Don’t believe them if they tell you that you are the greatest and don’t believe them if they tell you that you are the worst. Love your passions, push forward and never look back!
Trust your gut and have faith in the lord and your goals, never stop creating and working toward your dream. Just keep smiling, thanking those who support you and keep believing and eventually you will succeed. ~ Huck Johns
