Today we’d like to introduce you to Isaac Biver.
Hi Isaac, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I am Isaac Biver, a 20 year old Guitarist specializing in many styles including Fingerstyle, Blues, Classical and Rock styles. My story with music started around 7 years ago. I started by taking Guitar lessons from a family friend at school and quickly became obsessed. I took lessons for a little under a year and the pandemic hit. I started to find Fingerstyle Guitarists on the internet and began to copy what I was hearing. Fingerstyle was my first love of the guitar and all of my free time quickly became guitar. Some of my early influences were players like Sungha Jung and Andy McKee. A little bit later, I found Chet Atkins. A musician that would become my hero and a huge part of my life both musically and in general in terms of relationships, knowledge, musical sophistication and success. I was starting to play some solo gigs that I was picking up here and there. Since then, I have gotten into so much different music. I later became interested in Blues Guitar and developing a sense of improvisation and the use of a plectrum again. This was another major step in my musical development and versatility as a player. Most recently, I have realized my deep passion and love for solo and fingerstyle guitar playing and have started delving into the Classical Guitar world. I am incredibly grateful and fortunate for all the things I have been able to experience in music thus far, as well as all of the people I have played with and have gotten to know! Some of my accomplishments include being named 2023 International Thumbpicking Guitar Grand Champion, receiving 2025 Thumbpicking Recording of the Year with my debut album “The First One”, receiving 2024 Marton L Carroll Classical Guitar Award and have most recently became an Alvarez Guitars All Star Artist. I have been fortunate to have become friends with many of my inspirations and heroes. Today, I perform both as a solo artist and as a sideman. I also have found a passion in teaching. I am very passionate in incorporating my story, background and culture in my music. I am studying music in college in Nashville, TN and am looking forward to seeing where music continues to take me!
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
The life of a musician is never an easy one. It is hard to keep going sometimes. As a musician in 2026, you have many things to balance. You have to constantly market yourself, both in personal and online, you have to know how to run your own business or “brand” as a musician, you have to constantly create, improve and expand your artistry, no matter what kind of musician you are. You have to learn and become proficient in many aspects of the music industry just to barely make it and maybe be noticed. You have to stay inspired and have extreme self motivation throughout all of this. It is an extremely hard industry but I have to always remember that everything I am doing is music and the thing I am passionate about and I can’t really think of working this hard for something that is not that.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am most known as a guitarist. I like to think of myself as a musician who just so happens to play the guitar. I don’t like to put labels on things or people. I am a musician and play the things I love. Having said that, you could call me a guitarist that specializes in Fingerstyle, Blues, Classical and Rock Guitar styles. I am most proud of my hard work ethic and my extreme passion for music and continuing to deepen and refine my musicianship. I have a passion for history and having a reverence for the music of the past and how we can learn from that and apply that musicianship to ourselves. Like stated before, I find it very important to think of myself as a musician, not a guitarist, allowing myself to think deeper and not trap or box myself in corners as I think many musicians do. Having a deep understanding and respect for lots of music is incredibly important to me.
What are your plans for the future?
I have always loved performing. I perform mainly as a solo act, but also love performing as a sideman. I want to continue to perform. I have also found a passion in teaching the past couple of years. I see myself as a torch bearer for a lot of music and a lot of important aspects of music that is not necessarily being passed on today. I have a passion for helping informing others and seeing others continue to grow. I am currently in school in Nashville, TN studying music and am thinking about graduate school to receive a masters degree so I could teach academically in the future.
