Today we’d like to introduce you to Isaiah Thomas.
Hi Isaiah, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Our story matters; all of our stories matter. You have a voice, and you deserve to be heard.
When I was 3 years old, I discovered basketball. My parents saw how much I loved basketball, so they got me my first hoop, Laker jersey, and mini basketball.
I love my parents because they were the first humans that cared about me. God really used them to mold me into the man that I am today.
That is how I started. I learned at a young age that who you become shapes where you end up in life.
This world will try to silence you, but I was never meant to be silent, and neither were you.
It takes courage to share your story. It takes courage to believe in people.
My story is one of many, but when we tell our story, it gives us access to a power that allows us to be loved.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Basketball was my favorite sport but no one told me how hard it was going to be for me to pursue it.
When I was in high school, about senior year, that’s when it all hit me: that there was more to life than basketball.
That’s when I discovered the training world of basketball, I never knew that I could combine two things I was good at and make a career out of it.
See, I didn’t just like basketball; I loved it. It was who I was, it was what I wanted to be, it was my identity.
That was the issue though: basketball wasn’t and isn’t alive. It gave me things, things I wanted, but for some reason, I still wasn’t satisfied.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
In my field I’m personally known for personal development and basketball training. My work is centered around helping athletes grow, learn, and find purpose through their experiences.
One of the topics I talk about is how kindness leads to change. We show love by expressing it outwardly. Often, love begins as a feeling and then turns into action. One thing I’ve learned about love is that if you’re trying to show love but it’s not genuine, it’s time to pause, reimagine, and get filled with love again so it can overflow naturally.
Love is the glue of every relationship, especially in basketball training.
What sets me apart as a basketball trainer is that I truly believe in the organized chaos approach in personal development and basketball training.
Basketball should be about having fun. It’s chaotic—that’s what makes it fun. That’s what makes it worth the time you put into it. Putting things together and making it work is all part of the process, and that’s what makes basketball so amazing.
That’s why I wrote a book for athletes, The book is an interactive guide companion for athletes to take with them anywhere.
In my training package you get the book as a part of the regimen. I believe we can’t help athletes without helping them mentally first.
I can only be in one place at a time and my passion to help athletes is much bigger than me. So if you’re interested a link to it will be at the end of the article.
Basketball was something I loved deeply, but my experiences helped me understand that there was more to life than the game. That journey shaped the way I think about personal development, purpose, and the importance of growing beyond what you do.
I’m proud of being able to share those experiences through my writing and use what I’ve learned to encourage others.
