Rising Stars: Meet Ivory Layne

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ivory Layne.

Hi Ivory, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
My musical journey began in my hometown of Denver, North Carolina, writing songs on my family’s piano.

From an early age, I was drawn to lyrics and melody; as I grew up, I began experimenting with recording those ideas and fell into music production.

I heard if you wanted to be an artist and write songs, then Nashville was the place to be; I moved here fresh out of high school and have called Music City home for the last nine years, though now I work largely out of the UK as well.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Much like my hair, I would not describe the road as “smooth.”

First off, there’s the struggle of being human. A living, breathing, growing human with flaws and limitations working alongside other humans. Thankfully, all of that makes for wonderful songwriting.

I think my expectations have gotten in my way the most. I came into the music industry expecting a certain level of success, a picture of how my life would look, how I would be.

I’ve lived a lot of life squinting at the horizon line, waiting for what I think I want. Being present and enjoying the life and career I’ve got in the moment has been my greatest challenge but also my greatest reward.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I’m an artist, songwriter, and music producer. Though my work resides in the pop space, I’m passionate about helping people tell their stories through music, no matter the genre.

My commitment to authenticity and depth is something I am proud of. I’m a big fan of words in general, but I’d say I’m known for my ability to put words to emotions in a way that’s effective and creative.

Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success?
Resilience. Pushing past the fear and the following conviction.
