Rising Stars: Meet Jacob Isom of Nashville

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jacob Isom.

Hi Jacob, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
Born in Chicago, I had very humble beginnings. I lost my father when I was 14, raised by my mom, and lived with my three brothers. I knew that I wanted to make a difference from an early age. I loved learning, I loved education. I was fascinated by new information, and in my mind, the way to make sure I would become successful was through education. I kept going to school until I recieved my PH.D in Curriculum and Instruction in 2024. I began my teaching career in 2014, as well as published three books, while working on my fourth book. I started my first business in 2011, opening my self-publishing company, then in 2024, opening my own consulting buisness where I focus on relationships and education. Over the last two decades, I dedicated myself to mentoring, teaching, coaching and spreading my talent through written work and speaking.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
My life, just like anyone, has been full of obstacles and proud moments. I’ve lost a lot of people I would call friends and family. I’ve heard no more times than I would like to hear. I’ve spent countless of hours and thousands of dollars building my brand with just a desire to break through and become a household name. It has been years of hard work, dedication, and sacrifice just to get to where I am now. I still have a long road ahead but I put in the sweat equity and finally see the light at the end of the tunnel. So, yes, it has been a struggle, doing most of the work by myself with little help.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I have worked full-time as a teacher for the last 12 years. I have worked with children as young as five, and as old as nineteen for the past two decades. I specialize in relationships, curriculum and instruction, diversity, and culture. I am more so known for my unorthodox takes on relationships and education. I am most proud of my two children, the wonderful young human beings they are becoming and have become. But, outside of them, I am most proud of my continous push for positivity throughout my works, and the need to bring cohesion in a very divisive world. I believe what sets me apart from other people is that I am unapologetically me. I love bringing my own take and spin on topics. And I do so while keeping my integrity, as well as staying academically honest.

What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
I love the diversity, and the comradarie that is shown during difficult times as well as times of triumph. It is nothing I dislike persay.
